Re: tatoos in the workplace?

Depends on tattoo as well as workplace.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: tatoos in the workplace?

I think it's okay if you work in a tattooparlour...

This forum is stupid.

Re: tatoos in the workplace?

I would request a transfer to a different store as the simplest way out for them

If its a client then you don't have to follow their policy but they don't have to hire you either; transfer solves that one.

if its your own company policy then complain that long sleeves are a hazard and ask for a transfer, if they can't read between the lines complain to OSHA about long sleeves

Re: tatoos in the workplace?

i am going to ask for a tranpher the next time i go into work. it is NOT my company policy it is only 1 of the stores i go into that just CHANGED there policy and are now complaining about it... and we are not alowed to wear sweatshirts in there store eather so i cant put that on and take it off when i go to the other stories that i have to go to in a day.. and i cant just put something over it becauase it has to match a "dress code" ..........

lol nope tongue.

anyway I've got plenty of tattoos, and The only time I'm not allowed to show them is if I'm working a public faced job. all other times its fine.
If you have an offensive tattoo, then You shouldn't be allowed to show it off. But definetly You should be fine with them.
What annoys me is the complete intolerance for piercings. I've got 12 of them and every morning before I go to work I have to sit and take them all out, then Every evening when I get back I've got to sit and put them all back in. Its fairly annoying ;_;

Re: tatoos in the workplace?

tattoos can be classed as racial discrimination. numerous ethnic groups regard tattoos to be a core part of their cultural identity and as such refusing to emply someone on the grounds of a tattoo can be challenged as discriminatory.

Re: tatoos in the workplace?

It's just that certain public jobs depend on how you look.
Most people don't mind tattoo's and/or piercings, but there will always be those who connect them to criminal activity. And there's always parents who think teachers and child care workers shouldn't work with those extra's in/on their body's. As children may say these people as rolemodels and some parents will always be conservative.

Piercings in my opinion are not as big an issue, as they can be taken out when you grow older and weary of them or it just complicates jobsearch. It's one of the reasons I never decided to get a tattoo. Some of the jobs I desire in the future, mostly front office jobs, will be much harder to get with a tattoo on my forearm. Plus, when I look at older people with tattoo's, it's just embarassing.

So, it's still a freedom of choice to get a tattoo or piercing, just don't complain when people take offense to them in the workplace. Get a back office job and you can do whatever the hell you want.

I read an article about a stewardess who got fired for having millimetered her hair. It's complany policy that extravagant hairdo's are not allowed. Thinking ahead is quite normal here. If you desire a job, you should sometimes be prepared to make sacrifices.

This forum is stupid.

Re: tatoos in the workplace?

i should get a tattoo of a butt with a butt tattoo, on my butt

its perfectly understandable that a company doesn't want criminal looking people seen entering or exiting their building, even if they don't chat with their customers...
