I didnt intend to complain Ace . . . my main point was this game needs a graphic overhaul first and foremost to attract new players (and a gameplay overhaul to keep them).  Unfortunately video games of any kind rely heavily on the graphic arts and what attracts the eye attracts the interest.

I'd vote some easy changes such as no draft/vip spots, 1 delete/rejoin galaxy.

This would force people to make a decision rather than delete/rejoin until they hit a good fam and would get more peeps to know each other...


I also like the "supergalaxy" idea with MW vs PW - this in itself could get more people active as it would then be fun again.  Seems every map has multiple fams super close to each other with just a chosen few lucky enough to not have players 4 ticks away...

i would say the core system was just a development of the game...just like how the game started with teams and then slowly every one used the fam bank system until orbit's fam last round showed us their team strat...

regarding the core strat....i would say its impossible to remove...its up to the leaders of the fams to correct the game play...how they...as a family...is willing to make a smaller core...like maybe 10-20 systems while running the risk of losing the round but making it more fun with cancellation wars and such

lol Everyone is missing the point Noir is making.

The strat is ALWAYS the same. Because the only changes have been Oct hurricane and the solds/ droids as well as the premade race edits. All of those things didn't really add anything new to the game excepts hurricane.

We need to expand a little more.. Make the game more complex with units and buildings at attack and defend against different things adding new dimensions to the strategy of the game. If I knew how to program I'd put my time into this game because I really enjoy playing it. But I don't

Point being: super gals... no drafts... drafts... fast ticks... slow ticks... All of them result in the SAME thing. Reliance on activity and not different strats.

I want different units.. Different buildings... Maybe a new resource. New opps. New spells.

But as James said... This thread is useless because this game WILL not change. If I won the lottery I'd hire some of my programming gamer friends to overhaul this shit and I'd buy it off stefan.. but that will never happen either... PIPE DREAMS people.

Having just come back to IC from a 3 year break it's interesting to see how much it has changed and yet stayed the same.

The strategy and thought required to play in a sucessful family which makes the game so appealing remains excellent. I would recommend IC to anyone wanting to develop both their team work and communication skills.

As a data junky the stats, calculations and balancing required still have me hooked and learning every round, I don't think i could ever tire of the mental challenge IC brings.

It's a brilliant platform where I've met people from all over the world, learnt to work with different time zones and across language barriers ... what an experience!

If I could make a single improvment it would be to get the MODs to clean out the abusive players. Over the years I've read everything from sexisim, racism, religious bigotry etc. I've had many friends quit IC becuse of this and it is the one element which really spoils the game play and yet is something which the MODs already have the tools to deal with.

It's not the volume of players, or the speed of the game which makes IC good but the quality of the people you meet and interact with.

I came through VERGO as a noob many years ago. It was a good filter for training players and setting down ground rules of play.

IC will go on regardless ..... after all I'm still playing games released 15 yrs ago so why not IC smile

There is a lack of strategies to help new players, hence the lack of competition. Few ppl guide or teach and few written strats r  up, so few players who have joined this game have any understanding of how to be good.

Also, rounds are too long imo. Less fams and less players, plus more naps and less wars, round lengths really need to take this into account.



I also think exploring should be disallowed when we get halfway thru the round. As it stands too many fams secure naps and infrawhore for the whole galaxy. A subtle change like this would change the mentally of the fams rather then more drastic changes that would complicate the game.

I don't understand why MW has alliances either. A. There are 15 fams... So 1 fams not gonna have a chance to have an ally. B. There are 15 fams... Why do you need an alliance with only 15 fams... You make a NAP with an alliance and you've removed 1/7th of the competition (really it's 1/5th including your ally)

i agree....i mean really...honestly...allies dont do a whole lot out of the top 5 lots of good medium familes to smaller families have no use to allies.

Many times we bring this up.
Many times we tried to make new changes.
Many times our ideas were ignored all these years.
Many times there is dishonorable acts.
Many times n00bs are turned away.
Many times players became inactive.
Many times some rounds were unbalanced.
Many times ghost spots ruined the gameplay and performance overall.
Many times some players cheated.
Many times we lost some mods.
Many times we have whiners.

How many more times do i have to say that IC is doomed?

Anyway, every round I lost more motivation to play and every round I wanna come back and play as i'm ICholic but i ended up disappointed. I honestly don't think IC will ever grow as big as before again and I think it will be more likely to be "community game" rather than multi-player game. If there is no developer with passion, then the game is doomed. Guess what? Stefan dont have passion to improve it.

Also, I wanna say to those who flamed Adoross away from improving IC "FRAK YOU!" I want Adoross back! Dammit!

I suppose we can add in as a building turrets or some such, that provide a ground defense, as laser's kill trannies, turrets do likewise with ground, although I would say have them cost as much as a laser, or more, and have them kill maybe an overall percentage as opposed to a set number, like a ds. Otherwise they become overpowered and abused and blah blah blah blah blah blah

The closest game to IC which I play on-line is Freelancer.

Player driven like IC they have clear rules of conduct for the players which makes the game play more fun, they also have good new starter stratigies in the forums.

Sometimes the IC main forums just seem to big for a new starter to find good info.

^ This is exactly the problem, new players just walk in, get slaughtered, get big headed arrogant messages from the top families.. then those same top families complain theres no competition. last round for me too, IC has run its course to be honest - if i wanted to play a space based game now, its eve, everything from interaction to the market is much better.

i love a good whine as much as the next dude but at the end of the day things wont get changed.

people play this more the the community now which is why we still have a good group of people.

those people do make suggestions to improve as they want IC to go back to its glory days but it wont happen.

just accept that stephan has all but given up with IC and that the players and community keeps this game running. smile

Agreed with Nolio and this is after coimin back from 4 years for 3 rounds    even small things like a few new race abilitys  etc would be awsom

Deffence bonus race choice


Ops that do some other stuff like

boots specific planets income or growth, deffence or cloaking  (like cloking it from investigate portal / infrastructure ops or increase chance they fail by a lot)

Allow a user deffined number of say soldiers to be used in "anti agent" to boost agent deffence but then there not around to help v ground attack


Much smaller empires (say 25-45% of your size get a salvage return on stuff killed in deffence say 30%  allowing smaller familys to absorb the losses a bit easier


A couple of new units to spice it up?



just anathing that alters as nolio said the fact this game now repeats as many minds have worked out the best way to bank etc  so same over n over  I actualy feel the game varies most as an attacker  but thats because you get far more from activity if your any good more stuff to do

but even then its not looking up new stuff just rehashing old and just checking for more targets the same way with same variables


basicaly bring some variation into the game  hell even a 5 fams v5 fams v5 fams v 5 fams would be interesting  sector wars

stephan could release code or ability to change some of it etc to a trusted mod to help develop the game?  and then open a beta gal that people can be in to test it as well  (Ie main account and a beta account)

the problem is that the mods are corrupt, and delete anything that points it out... and then forum ban anyone that wont agree with them.
this kind of behavior is what is causing IC to die.
