Topic: So you wanna be great eh? - New Players strategy
"Success is often the result of taking a misstep in the right direction." - Al Bernstein
Ok seeing as i don't really play anymore, just idleing in pw with 2 planets only for certain reasons (bullshit, read forums etc) i figure i'll throw this out to any player looking for direction and guidance on how to make a Successful family.
If your new or fairly new than i expect you don't know many players in IC, except your tutor and maybe a few players you've fought against, or others people may have talked about, myself i think of myself as a rather successful player in my prime (aka when i could be active) but now i'm more or less just hanging around since it's a hobby.
I've played for erm say 7-8 years, and didn't really get the concepts of the game down pack until about 2 years of play, simply because coming across good help is hard to find, also you must learn from your own and others mistakes.
Now the beginnings:
If your first starting out and just graduated virgo, or simply aren't that "good" you need to go to pinwheel to begin your journey.
I say this because if you choose to go to milky way, or andro you'll more than likely be discouraged by the play of others and being a no-name won't help you either with having your voice heard.
Now you'll be either of 2 things when you join a fam, A leader, or a Fam Member. I will go over general concepts that apply to both.
First line of business when hitting that "Join a Galaxy" button is ... getting to know your fam ... COMMUNICATION!!! so make a post in the forums (Welcome, Hey, New Round guys!) something, every fam starts with communication.
That planets button won't come into use just yet, you need to communicate with your fam and decide roles, and who will be the great leader. Some people like to do split leadership, that is not the best route, pick 1 leader and stick with him till death "Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." - Dr Martin Luther King
Once leadership has been handled, your leader will more than likely come up with a general begining of round strategy ... but let's say your leader, or that your leader doesn't know any good strats
Here is my BOR strat before round even starts.
If your playing pw, i believe your allowed around 15 players in your fam, with the dying state of IC its doubtful you'll get a full fam, but you should get atleast 10 players.
2-3 Players will be your warriors (aka attackers) those guys and those guys alone will be the ones jumped for wars, clearing threats, etc
Pick and choose wisely, because the best defence is a good offense. The most active and exp'ed should be attackers, as their time and energy put into the fam will dictate how it grows
you need atleast 4 bankers to be a top 3 fam, so going with 4 is a good bet.
You'll need 1-2 guys to go purely science from day 1, alot of people like doing 1 guy, i prefer 2 since a few rounds ago when i made a mistake and it winded up being for the better (goes back to 1st quote) so have 2 guys build 250 rc's at start.
Everyone else will be resources/retakers.
Buildings:
- Bankers
build 250 cfs
- Attackers:
build 225 mfs, and 25 rs - 1 attacker will go camaar and make 225 rcs and 25 rs
Resources:
225 mfs, and 25 rs
Science:
250 rcs
Everything cannot be built before the round begins due to amount of cash/resources on hand, on tick 0 (when time first starts) aid should be passed around to finish building.
Everyone starts with 2 expos in pw, so DO NOT MAKE EXPOS YET! cant stress this any further, why make expos that cost 10k and explore which also costs money, when you dont even have enough cash/reso to build up everyones 2 expos they already have? (figuring you have 10 players, thats 20 extra planets that can be explored, you got enough stuff to build those yet? no)
Already now that you understand that, tick 5 is when all cfs will be in and exploration can take place. There is no sense in having all your bankers explore at that time simply for NW sake ... another big mistake by people, instead have 2 bankers explore their 2 planets and have 1 banker make 4 transports.
When attackers buildings come in, 2 attackers will explore their 2 planets and have the banker with the trannies take off them (banker should have 7 planets by mid-day day 2) and have everyone supporting that one banker to get his planets full, once his are full build up the other 2 the other banker has with leftovers.
Now this is the part where the science guy gets involved on day 3 his science should be at atleast 60%, you'll have him make 6 expos and explore and build on them (you want him to explore close, and have all expos arrive on the same tick.) everything will be sent to him to max out on cfs. Before this happens have banker 1 make another 2 trannies, and banker 2 make 3 trannies.
Banker 1 and 2 will send to science guys planets, Banker 1 will take as many of the 6 as he can, and the rest Banker 2 will grab (morale issues)
from this point Banker 1 should have around 12-13 planets and a pretty nice income, banker 2 with 3-5 planets and a supporting income.
you will continue with having the science guy explore for the bankers, until you have enough cash for science guy 2 to do the same. Those 2 bankers will be the focus point and the only focus point for the moment.
Around day 5-6 you will do a resource jump (have science guy 1 build resources) while science guy 2 continues with cfs, do a cf start because iron is always cheap the first few days and what you lack you can buy ... iron start is a big no no
Theres plenty of inside details with this, and it requires communication/activity remember this.
If you want me to i'll go deeper into the strat, but basically you want your science guys exploring for the fam and making the desired buildings and passing them on, rather soon the science guy will be doing what i call a double exploration. By that i mean another attacker will explore, he'll take his 6 and explore his 6 on the same tick and build up 12 planets at a massively cheap price, if you use your head you'll understand how that can come together.
Ok thats the economy focus of BOR now for strategy and tactics
Attackers will want to get spread early on, by this i mean the 1st week is the easiest to get spread so take advantage of this and get into locations that otherwise would be difficult later in the round. The more area you control the more planets you have available.
"We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender." - Winston Churchill
Yamas is a key thing in learning where the enemy is, you should apoint a VL of war or have the leader do it. His job will be using the mapgen pretty often and telling people where to explore, who to attack etc. Intelligence is key.
It's kinda late here and i need to get some sleep but i'll continue this later.
