Saxon rocks wildly big_smile

Also I'd like to add that even though a band is stamped with a genre on their forehead, doesnt mean they suck. The music does the talking, not the classifications no-good critics give em big_smile

Looks like NWOBHM is quite in favour around here.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

i'm an aspiring metalhead, any quick suggestions for where to look? ;D i got some of In Flames' stuff, liked it a lot, and now i'm interested in the genre as a whole.

oh and more on topic: i find i also enjoy blood stain child, i like the different instruments they use (for example in the song metropolice) and the different sounds, etc

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

Sure Arnor, the fact that the original metal band was British. And that all the bands apart of the NWOBHM genre are all British and came many years after Black Sabbath makes no sense for the genre to be called the new wave.

Orange:

Seeing how you like In Flames, I suggest you check out Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy and At the Gates. They're the same genre as In Flames (Melodic Death). In fact, definitely check out Dark Tranquillity, cause they're second to none.

Bathory - A Fine Day to Die http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=OyYnstGB3rM&feature=related
==> awfully, dreadfully, horrible, ear-paining, grunting trash junk

Bathory - One Rode To Asa Bay http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=hDpc-831GPs&feature=related
==>starting is ok, he has a big nasal sound when he sings, not really 'enjoyable' to listen to, it's also sloooww...  music

"==> awfully, dreadfully, horrible, ear-paining, grunting trash junk"

You people have no tolerance big_smile Bands like 1349 or Burzum are "worse" than Bathory in that aspect, but it's still good. Especially Burzum is fun to listen to. Somehow the sound of an orgasmic tortured kitten appeals to people, I listen to it if I'm in the mood tongue

Anyway, Chees. Do you know/like following bands?

Rhapsody (now known as Rhapsody of Fire), Edguy, Avantasia, Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards, DivineFire, DragonForce, Rage, Sonata Arctica, Symphony X, Thunderstone, Zonata, ...

Most of those seem to me are your kind of music tongue

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

With th exception of dragonforce, thats a pretty good list smile

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

DivineFire have lots of singing. They just have this rougher edge at times, but that's mainly what makes them so awesome.

Avantasia isn't pop (although the last album does have its influences).

I did mean Rage, it's a band and very different from Rage Against the Machin tongue And I don't know where you find the grunt-tendency in Iced Earth. He just has a heavier voice tongue

And no, Burzum isn't better than Bathory. Realise it or not, where Burzum goes for screams, speed, lo-fi recordings and calls that a day, Bathory goes for technical implements, new ideas, viking influences and throughout his career neverending changes. So Burzum doesn't come close tongue

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Fighting for metal metal thats real
Brothers of metal will always be there

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

Guys can we do some of our favorate songs from different bands (post links here).

It would be nice to get into different bands if we listen to their better songs. Ill go first (fairly popular songs):

Judas Priest:
Painkiller - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAagedeKdcQ
Diamonds and Rust - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKbeQJuHOsU (dont care much for this live all that much but their studio version is brilliant)

Slayer:
Skeletons of Society - http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=GwHdQjCA82M (underrated song by them...)

X-Japan
Kurenai- http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=CgDdpATtGlM (should be heard by any lovers of speed/power metal)

Im actually a fan of high pitches btw (which is why Halford will remain the Metal god forever x()

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

Saw dragonforce live (as Edguy and Sabaton were supporting). Edguy bloody rocked, dragonforce were terrible. If they wrote decent lyrics, had some originality (instead of just hammerfall-ripoffs), and actually played their own solos on recordings, maybe i'd take them seriously...

Psychogenesis / Baracus / Coco

Thus, he proclaimed "By the power vested in me, I now declare you the 12th Earl of Toolchester, and what a tool you shall be"

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

Strange, the live performance I saw (supported by Sabaton) was bloody brilliant. And what you're asking for in lyrics and such is a serious approach, which isn't their goal tongue

Some favourite songs:

Angra - Spread Your Fire
Arch Enemy - Skeleton Dance
Avantasia - The Seven Angels
Battlelore - Elves of L

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

I can respect that you may not like Bathory Chees but please do not say that you pwned my tastes.  Bathory is one of the most influencial metal bands since Black Sabbath. Quorthon created Viking Metal, and had a hand in pioneering/inspiring a lot of black metal. And he did this all as the only true member of Bathory. When he first started making albums he recorded them in his garage. You can even hear the traffic in the background on a lot of the tracks, so thats why the recorded quality of his music isn't all that great. I would also suggest for anyone who wants to know more about Bathory to check out their official site. The wikipedia entry on Quorthon/Bathory is so full of lies that it hurts to even attempt to read it.

RATM got mess rap-ish towards the end.. The Battle of LA, their last true album, was the least rap inspired of them all...

Re: Metalheads : I bring to you something utterly weird

I'll do a current top 5ish songs... since listing songs I love would make about as long a list as elties, and that looks like too much effort tongue

Agalloch - ...and the Great Cold Death of the Earth
Eluveitie - Siraxta
Mastodon - Hearts Alive
Death - Flesh and the Power it Holds
Artillery - Don't Believe
Hawkwind - Sleep of a Thousand Tears

remember that I added ish after my 5, thus I was not bound to choosing only five!
