Well, looks like I'll be leaving the country at the start of next year then.
I was drunk.
Cloud,
Whatever. A vote for McCain is a vote for racism, uh huh. Real intelligent.
I didn't vote. I'm just hoping that McCain wins, because if he doesn't I will live in exile until Obama is no longer in office. I'll just chill with my family in Sweden until his tyranny is over.
Yeah I'm not saying they didn't give the Europeans access to valuable information, but if that information reached the Europeans in the dark ages nothing would have happened to it. At best, you'd have a noble who understood some grammar. You wouldn't have a professor genuinely interested in classical learning, with a few exceptions in Ireland, Spain, and Britain.
Well the muslims enjoyed the advantage of conquering urban societies, and their culture was trade friendly. That permitted the conditions for a more intellectual-friendly society. The Europeans began to move out of the dark ages when people started to settle in towns beginning within Italy and Flanders, and a commercial society was slowly established. What's funny is that a lot of people moved to those towns to escape the nobility, rofl.
Yes, Western Europe ruralized around the time of Emperor Diocletian, and the huge cities of the Roman empire started to depopulate as people moved out in to the country. Starting with the renaissance, people were moving back in to the cities and founding new ones (though the cities weren't nearly as big as they were under Augustus).
I don't.
Europe just got wealthier from trade and farming techniques, which allowed an academic class to develop. Sure the academics got access to classical western information preserved and copied by the muslims, but to be honest the muslim intellectuals were just as lame as the scholastic intellectuals in the renaissance. They didn't even come close to measuring up to the Greeks.
The changing academic and intellectual atmosphere, in other words, was caused by the changing social organization and economic conditions of Europe. You don't have time for contemplating philosophy when you're either training for war or the clergy, or are a malnourished peasant.

see how that works?
Stop noodging about online IQ tests>>
Haha you liar!
420,
Good lord, not that IQ test. It's such a joke lol.
Have him take this one (http://www.iqtest.dk/main.swf), it's one of the most professional IQ tests available on the internet. Though, it still doesn't match the quality of one administered by a psychologist.
I think cooperation with Iran is possible, but only because I think their leaders are big mouths that would cave in without support from Russia (trying to curtail US imperialism).
As for our military. Today armies have found the advantage in being highly equipped, trained, and backed with logistical support rather than a mass of conscripted men. This has lead to a trade off of large armies for combat effectiveness. Though our armies are more effective today in the field, they are also more expensive and smaller in numbers.
It's possible to be imperialistic today, but it requires a very different strategy than using ground forces to occupy. It's a really dumb idea actually. I have said this before, I think fear is a great strategy. The mongols were able to do it and control a massive empire, despite having relatively few numbers. They relied on being effective in combat with their speed and mobility, and they completely destroyed anyone who stood against them. It's an amoral strategy, but it's the one that works when your forces are small and you need to cover a lot of ground. Another thing you can do, which we have been doing, is support dictators who have the occupying force for you
.
Of course these military actions are inappropriate in the current political situation with Iran. Now is the time to release tensions and aim to realign the global distribution of power back in to balance.
Only a real noob would do that. I have higher expectations for even Bush.
Invading Iran would upset all the major powers in the world, because that would mean US control over the oil gold mine of the middle east, and no one wants that. It would start a huge and even more expensive proxy war than the one we are in now. It could even get to the point where other states will want to take the US down, leading to catastrophic economic consequences.
America could vanquish anyone. But it can not stand alone.
However, I think the exiled Habsburg monarchy has done a lot of good for Europe in modern times. But yeah, the other sitting monarchs have been pretty silly. Spain's monarch is also one of the few sane ones.
*pat for Zarf*.
*Waits for Eliot to give his essay espousing the evils of not considering the actions*
Errrr. If a value is objective, then it is valuable independent of what others consider it. If it's subjective, then it's only valuable because someone is giving it value. It's like the dollar. Objectively, there is no value for the dollar, only the value that people recognize it as having.
Edit: Cool we agree again
.
I know hehe
. So what do you look at Zarfy?
Naw things can have value. They just can't have objective value, only subjective value. In other words, things have value only because people value them.
So how do you reason your morals?
For me, I think morals are nonsense because you can't logically derive an ought statement from an is (as stated by Hume).
For example
People want to live
_
People ought to be not deprived of life
It just doesn't work logically. So no matter what theory used, I can just dismiss it on grounds that there is no way to justify an ought.
Well, you could have just listed my name in your post, because I think it's clear you already know!
The outcome.
If I were a mod, I would totally close this thread for flaming. You dudes should probably chillax.
Someone must be really dumb to fall for that, lol.
Naw I like and respect Imperial. He's being too condescending though imo.
By evil, I mean you should be selfish and narcissistic like me

Lol you aren't genius, but I'll give it to you that you're gifted. Your IQ is probably somewhere around 115-120ish. That puts you in at least the top 10% club. It's a good medium. The correlation of IQ and success stops and 120, and beyond it success starts to decline. Now all you need is to be evil like me
.
Well technically, but by Americans he meant "people in the United States of America."
Honestly, I think it's the Quebecians who are arrogant. I see this when I play online games very frequently. Not long ago I was actually playing a game of risk, and this Quebecian got really annoying with his boasting and French talk. It ended up where everyone else (who were Americans and British Canadians) ganged up and pwned him. As we were pwning him, he was talking about how he only lost because Americans were ganging up on him. Then two others guys told him they were Canadians too and told him to go die. Then he said "English people" were ganging up on him. lol. I rarely have trouble with the English Canadians, but boy can Quebecians be insolent buggers.
I hate your arrogant attitude.
