I thought you were one country

for the longest time i thought New zealand was somewhere in canada

I know where NZ is. You are located somewhere to the right of Australia. I know that's vague, but hey it's better than some answers here.

But again, I know little of your political climate, only that you have a few debates regarding government hand outs for Aborigines. You also have some really odd and unique critters, like kangaroos and black swans! But really, what's the point of merging Aussie and NZ?

But New Zealand would (essentially) have the same abilities of decision making it has now. Even more, if you think about it -- since it would then be allowed a say in federal matters of Australia.

Merging would allow both relations and businesses to thrive.

lol Gwynedd's post reminded me of justinians post which reminded me of amsterdam.  Iv heard that the women from that city are very promiscious. 

I think what justinian said was very pertinent to the discussion. not only was the discussion not very serious (hell we are talking about new zealand.... who gives a damn) but it could be a very good point about the differences in culture.  because new zealand and australia are seperated by water their cultures developed differently and therefore are unique.  so forming anything other than an alliance would be hurtful to those two cultures.

NZ matters, as we are the only country ion the world that can say "[love] you" to the US and a) not get invaded, and b) still have the US say we are good friends...

Skoe, why would we want to say what goes on in Aussie? why would we want aussies to have a say in what happens here? NZ is a different country, different culture and different history to Austrialia.... That website was interesting, but its conclusions that the past arguments have no bearing and thus NZ should be an aussie state were wrong. A) the arguments, whilst in their orginal context are wrong, are easily adjusted to the current day. B) They did nothing to address the principle reason given which was a different culture in NZ as compared to Aust. esp as arises with the Maori and the area of the treaty of Waitangi.

Thats why a unified system would enhance the smaller nations like Papua New Guinea (who actually do need a lot of help).
