Their companies are losing money. The purpose of a company is to create wealth. They're only creating FAILSAUCE. It only hurts us to give them more to waste==>lose.

if the auto-makers are able to spend $500 billion in the US and come up $25billion short, giving them $25 billion is gonna help the economy more then spending $25 billion elsewhere. the company is creating wealth, its just creating debt too. but the debt its creating is a tiny fraction of the wealth its creating.

we are competing with cheap foeign labor. the new blue collar workers are making like $21 or $24 an hour, and they're laying off the old workers at record lvls.

As does the UK, China, Japan, Russia... The point is that by your "messed up" definition half the members of the G20 are global superpowers."

yeah, i would probably say about half the members of the G20 are global superpowers, which makes sense. i mean its not like the Soviet Union was the first superpower. GB, France, Germany were superpowers before wwII, but they didnt have the influence across the globe that alot of countries have now with globalization. also, finally someone mentions the term that i couldnt think the name of, "hyperpower". the US is no longer a hyperpower, but it is easily a superpower.

what kind of messed up definition of superpower are you using? no country in the history of man has had the power you're insisting a superpower must have. the definition of superpower isnt the abillity to manipulate every government worldwide. its the ability to have influence worldwide, which the US does have. the abillity for the US to throw a monkeywrench in the middle east is a sign of their superpower status. the Soviet Union wasnt able to tame Afghanistan, and they were definitely a superpower...

hasnt effected me, im a hard worker and would be one of the last people to ever get laid off at work. i am saving money though because my dad is an electrical engineer for visteon (car parts company) and visteon is laying off alot of people, if he looses his job, i might have to help support him and my mom for a year and a half until my mom finishes graduate school, and as a PA should be able to easily find a job in any economy and make a salary that where they could easily pay me back.

it does mean i dont be buying a new monitor or TV despite prices for LCD's plummeting sad

"You hit the point. USA has a really reduce range of influence right know, Europe is supporting less and less USA decisions, Russia does not give a dam, USA can't touch in Asia without talking with China, Middle east is a mess and USA can't really do anything right now, South America coutries are almost rogue. The only place where USA as any influence is in Africa. Even that you have to share it with the rest of the world."

which decisions are those? europe is begging for American guidance in the economic recession  we're in. the US has huge influence in Asia. the middle east is a mess, and the country causing the mess in the US, its able to throw an entire region into chaos, pretty significant influence.... South American countries economically depend on the US.

jsut because every country doesnt serve the United States and doesnt do everything we say, doesnt mean we dont have influence. we have influence in every continent in the world...

then, please tell me the topic! you're making "points" without setting a topic. we have no idea what you're trying to prove with your "points"

as for the auto-industry. the auto-industry's significance to our success is being debated currently. thats why they havent gotten any money yet; republicans arent convinced we're better off with the big three. its not like 25 billion is that big a deal for the US.

the US is a superpower, because during this world economic crisis, the leaders of the top countries look to the US and go to Washington. the US is a superpower because it has by far the most powerful millitary in the world. the US is a superpower because it has more influence in the world then any other country. None of this can really be disputed...

i dont think anyone here is denying that China has extremly cheap labour which makes it so they are a good choice some of the time when you want something built. but thats not what defines a superpower... and it doesnt make the US not a superpower...

So Kemp, I want a moral theory that is empirically testable. The ones that name an ought and a principle to decide what we ought to do are not empirically testable and are just as irrational as religion. If I asked you to prove that we ought to do x from an experiment, you would not be able to. I'm assuming you agree that experience or observation should be our guide to what we believe, yes?"

well, nothing can be empirically tested without assumptions. you readily accept the assumptions scientists make to empiracle prove and disprove things, but arent willing to accept assumptions moral individuals make.
