You cannot hide a nuclear blast. For them its also difficult to hide a long range missile. So maybe a show off but I think it was inevitable it became known anyway. So I think it counts for both the show off and the test.

Although much of your comparison is correct, you cannot compare the second world war to a modern one. And this one is off topic but I disagree on your stance. America couldn't be killed off by japan. Just slowed down some more. They had the econ (as did the Russians). By the time the Japanese would be ready to try to invade the US the US would be strong enough to throw them back in the sea.

I doubt their army is willing to fight. The leaders might, but the normal soldier would revolt. They do not eat 3k cal potato a day.

Also you forget the large army of south Korea. Their moral is much higher, their weapons are superior to those of NK. Their air capability to name something might be lower in numbers but much better in reality.

All in all I think a precise air strike IF (and only if) the position of the targets are known is the best solution and will be without consequence.

I DO hope this president finally does something right. He lost most of my respect already. Handling this properly would regain a little of it.

There is a huge dif between china and NK. China has more fear for an uprising as NK. If china gets into troubles with the US, they don't have grain. Then the uprisings will follow automatically. Or that is at least what their leaders fear. If NK people starve, they just starve.

I'm all for an airstrike on the production facilities, but I don't know if they can locate the targets.
