"I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there's joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect," Biden said at a rally in Columbia, Missouri. "Well, guess what folks? If you care about it, why don't you support stem cell research?"

Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) says that if Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) becomes the first female vice president it will be a "backward step for women."

Asked by a local television reporter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin if electing Palin would be a step forward for women, Biden said, "well look, I think the issue is what does Sarah Palin think? What does she believe?"

"I assume she thinks and agrees with the same policies that George Bush and John McCain think," Biden added. "And that's obviously a backward step for women."

I've said repeatedly we're screwed
conservatives are going to spend the next two years fighting the government, maybe 4 years if the 2010 midterms don't produce a sound conservative majority in congress

they tried that in 1991, it killed several American industries like the yachtbuilding firms in Maine that had been older than the USA, they put a 25% tax on new construction of yachts so everybody bought a used one or went overseas.   It was repealed in 1993, one of the few tax cuts Clinton put through that year.

>> At the same time, he'll have opened the door for Biden to come out well in his debate with Palin, as she will probably be on the offensive after all the remarks made about her.<<

This week, Biden said the Palin nomination was a step backward for women, and said if Republicans love kids with special needs so much, why don't tehy back stem cell research.

You can open a door for a pig to do well, but you can't make him dance.

I think Palin should wear lotsa lipstick and speak under a sign "SOME PIG"

>>I am not aware of any of the policies or what these people stand for, other than that Palin likes guns. Shouldn't election campaigns be the other way around? Shouldn't the casual observer be ignorant of who the people are but know what they stand for? <<

The Democrats don't dare spell out what they'd do,  nobody wants unlimited graft, more regulations, open borders  and higher taxes.

The Republicans won't actually do anything they promise because they've got too many loose cannons.

It's easier for both sides to avoid specifics.

you smile heads are gonna drive me ape smile with your chicken smile  horse smile

there's 14 year olds here!

powerlineblog.com has video of Obama saying it.  From the way his crowd cheered I think it was meant as a slap on Palin.  Golk's right, he's fighting McCain's #2 too much

Although I have a Brit for a hero in the sprints: Chris Hoy!

"Next day, Hoy meets some Scottish journalists. One puts it to him that: 'In the last 24 hours everyone has been offering an opinion on Chris Hoy. But what does Chris Hoy think of Chris Hoy?'

Hoy doesn't miss a beat: 'Chris Hoy thinks that the day Chris Hoy refers to Chris Hoy in the third person is the day that Chris Hoy disappears up his own arse.' "

Report: Lance to return for '09 Tour de France

Sep 8 03:46 PM US/Eastern
By The Associated Press 20 Comments

Lance Armstrong will end his retirement and hopes to compete in the 2009 Tour de France, according to a cycling journal report.
The 36-year-old seven-time Tour de France champion will compete in five road races with the Astana team in 2009, the cycling journal VeloNews reported on its Web site Monday, citing anonymous sources.

Armstrong's manager Mark Higgins did not immediately respond to a voice mail left by The Associated Press.

The move would reunite Armstrong with Johan Bruyneel, now the team director for Astana.

VeloNews reported Armstrong also will compete in the Amgen Tour of California, Paris-Nice, the Tour de Georgia and the Dauphine-Libere.

The Astana team, however, was not allowed to compete in this year's Tour after Alexandre Vinokourov was kicked out of the 2007 Tour for testing positive and the team quit the race.

Remember MA BELL??

WTF can 2 businesses have 75% of a US industry?  If they're so big we HAVE TO bail them out, KILL THEM OFF

no more loans, go to Citibank, go to WaMu, go to a savings and Loan

in 30 years we'd close out all those loans

but no, we have to coast to Armageddon, let's continue to grow Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, let's take on federal responsibility for debt = 50% of GDP

US is a federal government.

Most low-income aid for healthcare is by county, and by state.

Federal aid is not generally available, restricted by severe hardship and age.  And that is infamously inefficient, only 10% of the Medicare budget is for payments for health services.

windows--as with low interest rates, there is absolutely no climate possible where the govt can say "OK we're out of the emergency, time to restore proper control to the free market"  it will become the new reality

which is fine until some trouble hits

Yeah if Mike Tyson comes for you, you don't need a gun unless he has one.   And if his six friends don't have one, put up your dukes, win or lose you're a man! Until they pleasure themselves with your ass.

yeah and class-actions are a fact of life, I expect several dozen attys sprained their groins leaping to start them

who's to say your investment didn't lose half its value because of tortious conduct by the govt/FannieMae/FannieMac? A JURY

wonderful, US govt. now responsible for $11 trillion in mortgage debt.  GOVT doesn't know what its doing or what it wants, with Barney Frank cracking the whip we're all in trouble

Here's somethign to consider from examples in Latin America and Asia: a depression where the govt isn't committed over its head is always preferrable to a depression where the govt is already fully committed and needs influx of foriegn capital to survive

guess where we're headed.  Because we wanted to be SAFE

Its back to a tie and Palin and McCain each beat obama and Palin was on fewer networks
