lol, gl with your essay.
"Come on, someone argue with me! You know, like the people who were favoring the other side of the argument?"
Anything for you zarfy, anything!
"1: Extended deterrence makes the Trident systems obsolete. As a member of both NATO and the EU, Britain has close alliances with two nuclear powers: the US and France. Alone, either nation provides a strong deterrent force. Together, its credibility in launching a deadly retaliation is pretty much guaranteed, short of some advance in missile defense systems. In addition, Britain has non-submarine missile systems, such as aircraft and ICBMs. Britain just doesn't need the Trident subs."
Adding another nation increases the chances on a successful deterrence and a failed first preventive first strike that destroys all capability to retaliate. Next to that, would any of those nations risk self-destruction for another nation? Or try to make an agreement with the enemy and survive? They would make any effort to tell their enemies they would retaliate if their ally is under attack but if it is true is another question.
Britain has aircraft's, but it is not very cost-effective compared to subs. And its success is not always guaranteed. An ICBM can be destroyed on the ground in a first strike. If they place 100 or 1000 won't make any difference.
"2: Nuclear submarines are risky business.
A: Accidents. Historically, there have been multiple instances of nuclear submarines colliding into one another. There's a number of reasons for why these accidents happen, but they undeniably occur.

"MAD only works when the nations involved are rationally controlled. But if those nations are rational then they wouldn't use their nuclear weapons anyway. However if your "opponent" is not rational, then they may not pay any attention to MAD and just nuke you anyway."
They are rational to the point that they are not suicidal.
"This discussion has become somewhat historical, but the question is, is MAD relevant in a post - cold war era when there are no two major powers with any desire to destroy each other?"
Russia is a major power and so is china. Both are unreliable dictatorships.

He looks gay, you sound like one now, I dunno... ![]()
only one post? Even tough its a copy-paste, I think this flint is a FAKE! ![]()
I'm thinking about it, but as a Belgian, I would loose 1/2 on tax. That wouldn't pay for my airplane ticket. I would also have to sell paintings.
I could never leave you east!

@avo:
"Europeans are always under reacting."
That is as much a generalization as the fact Americans would overreact.
"They Lack common sense."
Doesn't seem like a brilliant thing to say to me. There are as many different europeans as there are people.
"The Roman Empire fell? well we are just going to stew around and do nothing for a thousand years. There's a massive disease sweeping the Land, what are we going to do? nothing, and hide in our houses, hopefully it will solve itself, loses 50% of population of continent."
You speak about Europe as if there ever was a unified plan. It happened nowhere on earth that a large group of people voluntarily made peace and formed a group to improve the lives of everybody. Even if 50% of the population would want that at a certain time, there would have been no way for them to achieve that. The truth is everybody tried to survive and knew little. People where a lot dumber due to low quality of food and no education. Everybody tried to take the largest piece of pie he can get despite the consequences. It has been the same everywhere.
There are a few exceptions to that but they are few.
America, my cat, just went on with her life after 9/11. Can we close the thread now? ![]()
@esa:
I would rather see him accompany Han Solo.
@wfs:
Its the definition thing again. There is a difference between the ideals, the fascist and socialist states that existed or exist, and the way how to get to one of those ideals. We all know that.
But the third Reich and the soviet union under Stalin had a lot in common. I think kemp meant regimes reflecting those but with modern aspects. In that case he is right.
@aro:
no, and that isn't a good thing. But if he had 2/3 or more, the country would be lost. Oil or no oil. Now it all depends on how much resistance their democracy still has.
@izard:
News coverage is bad everywhere. Always has been. Best thing to do is to take more then one source of info. Never trust a source completely.
I think everyone in his right mind considers this a good thing, even the lefties or nationalists on this forum, even the people supporting what he does. He was becoming more of a dictator everyday and gained to much power. He nearly shut down every voice of criticism in the media. This remind me of a little fascist living in Italy. Well, there are little churches enough for this kind of people.
I would lol vkemp...if what you said wasn't true. Obama even increased the speed i.m.o. I don't know if thats the change he was talking about
.For one reason or another he seems to get away with everything.

@justinian:
I agree with everything except the last sentence. I think marriage has its huge disadvantages but can offer a certain stability and security to a persons relationship. If the gains are higher then the cost depends from person to person. I have to admit tough its hard, maybe impossible to know what the effect will be on the average relationship.
@walking corpse.
no offense dude, but your example is proving his point. The women would be insulted because the only reason one could say she is pregnant if she isn't, is because she's fat. The only analogy you can make from that is: "if you say someone is guy but he isn't, then you imply his manners make him look guy". Having "guy manners" would be a negative thing then. And I'm not for guy marriage (in fact I couldn't care less).
I still cannot understand how you can be both guy and want to marry for church, unless you believe you are a sinner and can't help it. If it is only for the state then just make a contract that gives them the same legal advantages.
@avo:
same story but I was about 18 so I have no excuses. How times flies, doesn't it?
lol
I agree with primo btw
@avo:
"yeah, but i really just copied the OP's simplification of the truth."
yeah, I see that now. You still have an interesting view on anarchy, but it has changed a little if I'm not mistaken.:p Although I disagree still, I have to admit you're about the only anarchist ever in this forum with a somewhat interesting view upon anarchism, that is why I remember. The few other anarchists that came here weren't very brilliant.
@V.kemp:
Little Paul isn't the name of my.. er... you know! It is to separate 2 different Pauls in the dune theme. ![]()
@chris:
One solution would be to have a "right wing" party separate from the republican party. Because of the competition, both will get out of it better. If the green party became stronger, the democrats moderates wouldn't be as moderate as they are now. It probably won't take long then until a moderate party exists which benefits from the gap.
Because be honest, Mc Cain wasn't very right now was he?
