where in that definition of Classics does it even mention philosophy? Philosophy is only a tiny part of Classics.
Classics encompasses a massive variety of topics based on a period far better documented than any other up until at least 1700 AD, if not later. It is the study of a period of history that gave us literature as we know it, democracy, the beginnings of science and philosophy, the art of oratory, historiography, sanitation, law courts, and much much more. I would even go so far as to say that had a combination of Christianity and barbarian invasions not forced the gradual collapse of the Roman Empire between 300-500 BC, that we may well have had the industrial revolution 1000 or more years earlier.
