you don't need a lot of people apparantly (most of mankind's genes can be traced to a group of less than a dozen ancestors or something), given enough time evolution in general will weed out the weaker ones

I'd assume given the limited number of people they would do a communal breeding program with the females so they could keep the largest selection of genes available. They would have to eliminate the concept of a monogamous marriage obviously and use strict breeding programs so certain people didn't breed too often with others who share relatives. Wonder how many of the population were cross eyed with genetic disorders tongue

SGU had a number of great episodes. Their main problem is that they drove everyone except their core audience away with the way they handled the series. 1) pissing off SGA fans by abruptly ending that series for no real reason; 2) pissing off Stargate fans by hardly using the stargate that much any more and generally scaling back on the things that made Stargate into Stargate; 3) confusing casual viewers with the very serialized format (although imo they did a good job of adressing this through their pre-episode summary of previous relevant scenes); 4) boring the average sci fi viewer to death in certain scenes and episodes.

Plus although it certainly wasn't plagiarism or anything, there were many similarities to other "lost and alone in space" sci fi material to really create a unique buzz about the show.

it sure was, I've started watching Babylon 5 which somewhat captures a tone similar to Space Above and Beyond but the latter is one of the bestest shows ever ever...

I thought the republicans said the US can do anything?

the latter is what I assume as well, after all in season 1 we saw that Franklin guy in the chair room which was rapidly reducing in temperature, then when they opened the door his body was gone... perhaps the ship carted it off to one of those cryo tubes

They could technically upload the people's minds to the ships computer and then move the bodies into the pods to preserve them. That'd be a pretty sick idea really.

"Could you pass me the salt, please?"

would then become something like

"Your sister has a lovely anus."

I can see this invention stirr up some trouble. Especially in arabic countries.

planning your next vacation, eh Primo?

It'll cost a fair dime, but if things work out all right and we end up with a stable democratic regime then it will have been well worth it. Also a military costs a lot in general whether it is being used or not, for example there have to be regular live ammo exercises so you may as well put the ammunition to good use when it is being fired.

On a more serious note, I've mixed feelings about our involvement - it's going to be expensive, which in the current climate isn't ideal, but at the same time, his threats against his own citizens etc make an intervention of some sort completely justified. It'll be interesting to see how he acts in response.

I wouldn't know if the muslim forces were inferior at that time they were probably evenly matched with a slight edge for the muslims, but it's very true that the defeat of the crusader states was largely caused by their inability to properly use diplomacy and flawed strategy (the same can be said of previous muslim defeats ofc). They could have put up a good fight but instead their internal divisions made them chose a course where they ended up pinned down and pwned due to dehydration.
