Topic: future of libia

They'll probably remove the great dictator.
any predictions what happens afterwards?
democracy, islamic state, socialist state?

I give democracy the biggest chance and hope it happens. Altough I'm very unsure about the outcome.

There might even be riots, power struggle between clans and civil wars in the aftermath.

Re: future of libia

well lets see the country with the most interest in libia is france. as well all of the countries bombing the hell outa libia would be democratic. i would have to assume osmosis will take place.

Re: future of libia

you spelled Libya wrong tongue

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee!!

Re: future of libia

true. But anyway, I asume people don't think we're talking about Libia superior if we put the word future in front of it.

Re: future of libia

well lemme put it this way.  If some trashy jerk you hang out with is macking your sister, I guess you have a duty to break that up.
While it would be nice for your friends to help, if they say "no we're not going to fight to make him go away" its still your responsibility to break it up.
You can't be like "Ok I'm gonna tell him to get the hell away from my sister, and then I'm gonna go have a beer, and you guys keep him off her."
Also, once you start throwing punches, you can't stop and say "ok I hit you a few times now lemme hook you up with somebody other than my sister so we're like still friends, only you're not with my sister."  you have to kick his ass and never see him again.
It's not about going through the motions so you can say "ok sis so you got knocked up by a deadbeat, but I kinda did the appropriate level of response given the context"
so that's how I feel about Libya, if it's as big a deal as the president says then I guess we should throw out Ghadafi or never have started. cause we're still after the Afghan SOB who raped our mother on 9/11 and that's REALLY important.

Re: future of libia

Obama withdraws. The operation was to successful. 1/4 of the official Libyan army is destroyed. Can't happen.

Re: future of libia

khadaffi isn't beaten just yet.
Yesterday I heard a possible solution, deviding Libya in west and east.
Rebels get east (which contains 80% of the oil fields) and Khadaffi keeps west.

The UN will be satisfied with that, Khadaffi keeps his pride (well, he'll think so anyway) and the rebels will get their own place, and stop the bloodshed.

@primo
he will always pose a thread and hate his attackers. They know that.

Re: future of libia

Khadaffi's campaign against the rebels started off by him claiming the rebels were out to split Libya into East and West... so splitting it up would only help him as it would only prove his initial claims to be true.

Maar doodslaan deed hij niet, want tussen droom en daad,
Staan wetten in de weg en praktische bezwaren,
En ook weemoedigheid, die niemand kan verklaren,
En die des avonds komt, wanneer men slapen gaat.

Re: future of libia

Next to that he can lockerby another place again once he has his hands free.

Its a powerstruggle between a lot of countries. To name only a few:

pro: France, uk, luxemburg
pro-but-les-fanatic: US (suffers from obamination)
slightly against: belgium (foreing minister pleads against)
against: russia, china, germany

This makes it a very difficult operation to take more actions but if they don't arm the rebels, and the dictators regime holds, it would be a disaster.

Re: future of libia

"slightly against: belgium (foreing minister pleads against)"

the enthusiasm of our minister of defence on the other hand made more than up for that smile

Re: future of libia

Given the history of the region the great dictator will be replaced by another great dictator.  At best they'll have a democracy for a few years but then some nut's going to get elected or just stage a coupe and then we're back to where we started.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Re: future of libia

The US would't  use their expensive B2 bombers  just for the hell of it.
Obama wants to keep his Mr.Nice Guy image,so he uses the french Napoleon wannabe as proxy.

Re: future of libia

I'm guessing the future will be:

Obama: "April fool's!  We actually like Gadaffi!"

Make Eyes Great Again!

The Great Eye is watching you... when there's nothing good on TV...

Re: future of libia

...and I was born in Libya, we are actually brothers and we were both slaves.

yeah and 2 weeks after NATO pulls out the UN HQ will be blown up by "terrorists" in Polish Army uniforms, and Ghadaffi has no choice but conquer the east in self defense

Re: future of libia

"and Ghadaffi has no choice but conquer the east in self defense"
Those are not terrorist but freedomfighters! And maybe we should arm Ghadaffi so he can protect civilians...like he did before. Artillery always makes collateral damage and he's not to blame when Misurata is full of terrorist. That is so unfair for such a peacefull man *wipes tear*.

on a more serious note, seems like he is negotiating a withdrawal. I hope they still trial him afterwards. smile

Re: future of libia

Doesn't help that we had 4 previous presidents and 1 current president take a picture with them standing and smiling next to a dictator...didn't help that we had 15 senators shaking hands and smiling in those same pictures either....

I bet their trying to find copies and burn them as fast as they are found.
