>.@Key: How many of those Americans never should have had those homes in the first place? When my wife applied for credit they authorized her for a mortgage over $100k. She applied before we were married so it was just her income, which was around $20-22k a year at the time. Can you imagine if we had gotten a house to the max of what we could? There's no way she could have afforded the payments, we probably still couldn't with a combined income.

People need to know their limits. If they had bothered to think about it beyond what they were approved for and gone for a less expensive place they would have been in a much better position now.

Not to absolve the banks/housing groups for approving people for credit that they couldn't possibly pay for. Just saying<<
