I love the idea of having new self spells/ops added to the game.

I like the overall concept, but i think it should be an agent operation. pax already have OH and dont need a new unique spell. if you have a good magic bonus you dont need extra defense. i could see this type of agent op for a Revalon or Quantam.

Quantam "Disruptor Shields" (as Glenn described)
Revalon "Bribe Wizards" (your agents bribe the opposing wizards to generate the same effect)

It could also be a randomly generated defense % with each attempt.

By making it harder you are making 2 changes at once. When you make multiple changes to something its harder to assess it overall. If its broken or seems weak then we ask ... Was it the choice option? Was it the difficulty? Was it both?

All im saying is lets see effect A before you add effect B to the mix. If it turns out to be a little looney or overpowered then by all means increase its difficulty.

and thats more work for Ps that might not be neccesary

404

(22 replies, posted in Ideas)

Perhaps your right. It might be kinda nasty, but i dont see the reason to increase it's difficulty until you see it in action. Its jumping to conclusions and making assumptions.

Yes, my suggested change would no doubt improve these 2 ops. That being said, the change isnt a game breaker. Simply communicating can determine the validity of the emulated ops. So i have to ask; is nerfing it right out of the box really neccesary?

(22 replies, posted in Ideas)

What!? LOL

"Might have to make it harder to cast to justify it becoming an op worth having"

Youre a mod for all of 3 days and youre already thinking like them? Lets take something that sucks, make it cool and then make it suck again? Why cant we see how the change effects the gameplay BEFORE you talk about nerfing it?

In a hardcore galaxy most ops and spells are better. Kill Scientists for example is WAY better in a hardcore setting. What you are really saying is GFI/PFI is so bad that you dont want to waste an op using it in a normal galaxy. LOL

If your trying to sneak into someone's core when your small that means you wont have alot of planets to launch fighter run attacks from. Kirklestat found out the hard way just how bad of an idea that is. A smart attacker will raze the portals in what few systems your in. In other words... lots of fighters doing nothing.

Later in the round they make excellent fighter runners. I think thats what a Wardancer was intended for....smashing fleets.

They would be average core cleaners at best. You need portals all over your core to compensate for thier slow speed. Early in the round a Wardancer's 70 attack is irrelevant when taking out intruders. When core cleaning you dont come across portals just lasers and the occasional stationed fleet. If you happen to come across a portal in your core, then you arent a good core cleaner tongue

These 2 ops have always been, and still are just a funny goof operation. I can count on 1 hand how many times ive personally seen them fool another player. The 4 spells/ops they emulate are generated at random. This is the main reason they fail to fool anyone....

You try to frame a Partaxian and fool a Revalon pop banker into thinking he was Hypnotized, only to get a failed Force Field attempt on their home planet? DURRR!

Or maybe you want to trick someone into thinking a planet's portal had a Sabotage attempt and you get a Nuke instead...on a hardcore attacker which is pointless unless your going for lasers....once again DURR!

You also need to find an empire who happens to have both the spells/ops that youre emulating. Not to say that finding an empire with both is terribly difficult. Framing an empire with just one of the 2 has a 50/50 chance of fooling your victim.

My proposal:
Let us choose which one of the 2 spells/ops we are trying to emulate. This minor change dramatically effects the believability of a GFI/PFI. False CPFFs and Sabotage attempts could be very strategic. You might be able to start a war by emulating nukes or a hypnotize on someone's big banker.

Right now these 2 operations are a complete joke....

[16:43] <Destroyyoutoo> AA, someone got fooled this round or last
[16:43] <Destroyyoutoo> forget which one
[16:43] <@Walking_Corpse> it was arganon both times dyt
[16:43] <@Walking_Corpse> doesn't count

i rest my case tongue

Nobody is choosing a Wardancer even with the recent changes. Its a shame that nobody plays one of our 5 premade races. Lets break it down stat by stat and see why nobody is playing them;

Attack: +70%
Research: +40%
Speed: +40% <--- ?
Magic: +10%

*Spells*
Vision
Generate False Info <--- ?
No Fear
Electric Storms <--- ?
Find Target Planets
*Operations*
Spy on Target <--- ?
Check Allies <--- ?
Terminate Scientists
Investigate Portal
Planetary Infrastructure

*Specials*
Droids

1. 40 speed? Nobody can attack seriously being that slow. Camaar and custom attackers are just too numerous for a Wardancer to compete with them. With a speed so slow they need more portals, which means more planets and severe morale loss. They originally had 80 speed. I think 60 speed would be a good comprimise.

2. LOL @ the spells and ops!! Who came up with those? Half of them are useless for an attacker race.

-Spy on Target and Vision? ummm why?

-Check Allies is an obsolete operation. All you need to do is check a PvC in uni or ask anyone in chat to figure out who is allied to who. 8 years ago this operation was ok at best.

-Generate False Info....really? This would be good if dpenguins happened to play a Wardancer. Otherwise its garbage.

-Electric Storms on an attacker? Who is gonna jump their attacking wardancer in the hopes of maybe killing a pop banker? Answer: NOBODY!! Its only practical use is to op a friendly attacker to keep their networth low.

3. The original intent of a Wardancer was to be an SS empire. That was fine 8 years ago. These days SS is rarely seen and hardly accepted in today's IC familys. We dont even have 'Sag D SS' galaxy anymore. So the idea of keeping them as an SS race is outdated. This version is even worse as an SS with no income bonus and poor operations.

4. I was present when the Wardancer was changed recently. I spoke to a few mods and they wanted to keep a Wardancer balanced compared to the other races. In their attempt to balance they made them underpowered. I understand how balance works, however, what are you balancing them against? Most people play custom attackers or camaar. These are the races you need to balace Wardancer against, not the 4 other premade races.

So here is my proposal.....

Attack: +70%
Research: +40%
Speed: +60%
Magic: +10%

*Spells*
Vision
Sense Defense System (its listed in the race, but not in the guide)
No Fear
WarCry (New Spell - see below)
Find Target Planets

*Operations*
Infiltrate (new)
Destroy Units (new)
Terminate Scientists
Investigate Portal
Planetary Infrastructure

*Specials*
Droids

~War Cry~
This spell adds 3% morale to the Wardancer's morale. This should function as a 'self spell' much like Space Amazement. I believe this balances out their slow speed allowing them to make more frequent attacks. I chose 3% cuz 5% seems like too much and anything less is pointless. Thats an extra 93% morale per day IF your online 24 hours. Thats roughly the equivalent of having 4 morale planets.

I know at first glance some of you are gonna say that the new spells and ops are too overpowered for a Wardancer. WRONG! We need to be balancing them against custom attackers, not the other 4 premade races. The other 4 premades are irrelevant to this change as they already have their own role designed for them.

Look at any custom attacker anywhere. What do they all have in common? The ops i included in this change, for the most part. You have everything you need to attack with this selection of spells/ops....and YES, they should have these. Wardancers pale in comparison to a custom attacker in almost every aspect as they are now. We need to give people a reason to actually play a Wardancer instead of a custom.

Most people will still choose a custom or camaar over a Wardancer even WITH my proposed changes. Why? The speed mostly. Its hard to fight camaar with 100 speed let alone 60. My proposed changes gives them different advantages over custom and camaar, something unique to a Wardancer. It adds a new dimension to a family's attacker team. It allows them to assist other attackers even if they arent hitting as frequently as their camaar bretheren.

@smokee2k02: Didnt anyone ever teach you about proper sentances, paragraphs and the use of a period? You had one sentance that was literally over 150 words! Nobody wants to take the time to read your wall of text. Its insane. Anyhoo....about your 'complaints'....

You are using what i like to call the 'Artic Method' of ending wars. Thats when you spam their inbox with whiny messages asking them to stop. The Artic Method often includes personal insults and accusations of dishonor. You know, typical nerd rage stuff. Its not very effective at ending wars or saving familys from destruction. In fact it makes it worse. Just ask Artic how effective it is tongue

Arby3 is right. Wars are won by actually playing the game. How long did it take you to type up that insanely long post? Imagine if you had spent the time doing retakes and organizing your family instead! Only 1 family/alliance can win each round. Everyone else loses.

I have noticed that the '5 Stages of Grief' also apply to your IC family losing....

1. Denial - "Oh noes! i cant believe a family bigger than me is attacking me! This cant be happening. This game is supposed to be honorable and fair!!"

2. Anger - "Im so pissed off im getting attacked! Grr! im gonna write some angry messages and hope it deters them from attacking. If that doesnt work im gonna post in the forums and nerd rage there!"

3. Bargaining - "Maybe they will give me a NAP if i beg them? Ill do whatever it takes to get them to stop. Maybe post more in a forum, appeal to a mod for help. Perhaps spamming the leader's inbox will get me that NAP i so desperately need."

4. Depression - "Im so sad. No point in playing anymore. I should just go inactive and give up. Maybe if i whine some more they will stop? Oh well, i give up."

5. Acceptance - "its ok. The round is almost over and we lost. I guess ill prepare for next round and take my chances with a different group of players. Its just a game."

Now go back and read all of smokee2k02's posts in this thread (if your eyes can handle it again) You can see him working through all 5 of these stages. LULZ tongue

Why do lasers magically reappear after your bombers destroy them? Attack report says....

"X laser turrets got annihilated from above by the attacking forces"

I dont understand why this exists. its really dumb. If you take out the lasers, you should TAKE OUT the lasers. I understand its programmed into the game. I get it. In game terms it makes no sense. Annihilated lasers are just that.....annihiliated. tongue

Is it possible to get rid of this nonsense?

To anyone deleting and rejoining:
come back as an attacker of some sort. Most familys have all the bankers they need. Some knob randomed into my family with a horrible banker race. Rejoin as something useful or prepare to be a hyperspace bypass! tongue
