Scandinavian countries wont even let their citizens spend their money the way they choose, the government taxes their citizens ludicrous amounts of money; the FBI cant intercept any e-mail, tap the phone, ect, just like that; you cant protect yourselves or your family; even what beliefs you can hold is limited.

socialism is a result of paranoia of your fellow countrymen. if you werent paranoid of them, you would have no need to legally force them to do the right thing, even control how they spend the majority of their money through large taxes; big government is a result of fear and paranoia.

the US is more conservative then other 1st world countries, and prior to 9/11 i'd say the US was one of the least paranoid, the single largest terrorist attack in history cant be ignored while looking at the cause of a country's paranoia.
