since when are prisoners sinners? they're the ones being oppressed. the people not in prison are the sinners.

How can government define morality? is government infallible in your mind? is your Government your God? Government is abunch of old rich guys that a quarter of the population chose to put in office over another old rich fart. Government isnt something to base your morals on or something to worship; its something that is supposed to be helping you, and the only responsibility you have to your government is to abuse it and benefit as much from it as possible. Prisoners are people that the government has failed, nothing more, nothing less.

How odd that Scandinavian countries, the most socialist countries in Europe have more personal rights then you americans after the Patriot act.. Americans always claimed to defend their personal rights (I like to refer to the many gun-control debates in the old politics forum) and government regulation with every breath they have, while they allow their government to pass 1984-laws like the Patriot Act, or allow their army to recruit people in malls or any other social gathering place.
Government regulation in things like social security is by far less criminal in my opinion. Again, scandinavian countries are very prosperous (the have a smaller percentage of poor people then the US).

You are right to distrust your government though, with a turnip like George Bush leading the state, I'd be frightened even.. The thing is that USA doesn't have any alternatives, you either vote Democrat, or Republican. If some government screws up over here, they lose a terrible amount of votes to another party. In America, on the other hand, people, at best, vote for the only alternative; or, after a few desillusions, stop voting. The result is that the 2 parties that dominate the political area can do pretty much whatever they want..
I can honestly say that a lot of people are monitoring our government, resulting in a better government. A socialist state isn't corrupt or threatening by default. Abuse, in any state, starts where people stopped caring. The best example is the USA, when you let bills like the Patriot Act pass, a too small group is checking up on the government. And that's dangerous, not the socialist colour of a state...

AFAIK, the intelligence service can't intercept any email, tap the phone, etc just like that. Apart from gun control (who need guns in the first place?) and a restriction on racism/nazism (I don't see why this is wrong. You can't call an organisation like the Ku Klux Klan healthy), the scandinavians have more rights then Americans

when did I say anything about public speaking? I'm going by their politics. If you're going to argue anything at least say something relevant to what you're arguing.

I didn't say he can't have any solutions. I just said that any candidate speaking about the war and saying how long they will fight is lying.
