Religious teachers, especially among evangelical christians, love to assert that prayer can realize a desired outcome. For example, if you want better relationships in your life, then pray to God and it will be realized. If you want to earn more money and thus live more abundantly, then pray to God and God will reward you with your desire.

Seriously, wtf?

There is only one way outcomes are realized. The physical conditions guaranteed or determined them to occur. Though outcomes can occur that we could not predict because of our own ignorance, every outcome we experience can be traced to a causal origin.

It is for this reason that religious claims of miracles and prayer are false. The truth is that if we want an outcome to be realized, then we must identify the means to realize it and act accordingly.

All this talk about prayer ---> outcome is a fraud. In fact, there is no empirical basis for this, and the only defense is a confirmation bias. Religions should be told to stfu and charged for fraud when they make such claims, and limit themselves to personal growth and right living.

So Einstein's logic is that

Clouds deflect radiation

More radiation will cause more evaporation, and therefore more clouds.
With more clouds the safer we will be from the sun.

I'm sorry but that logic, while valid, has false premises.

Theo,

Lets have a pregnancy pact. I get you pregnant, and then you move in and be a stay at home mom.

Lyv/Skoe,

Uhh... you really have to be desperate if you want teenage girls. I would never consciously have sex with a teenager. In fact, I prefer at least 20 years old. Even at 18/19 they're often too immature.

Every regular here knows that I have relaxed views on sex, but seriously, wtf is with this city?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25272678/?GT1=43001

Four teenage girls decided to get pregnant, and made a pact to raise them together. In a sign of desperation, one of the girls let a 24 year old homeless man knock her up.

So who wants to get together? Where at?

I wanted to say something first. There are arguments that the principle of falsifiability does not always apply to science. That is true. However, just because some science does not operate that way does not mean it is not bad science. It may be science that is poorly put together, which it would have to be, and we should have a low confidence in it. It should be seen as material to work with for the future.

Selur,

Just to clear up a possible misconception. I hope you mean that they aren't false findings, but just not credible because of the biased motivation. However, I should point out that such can be said for research that confirms environmentalist arguments as well.

Then it's not science, but soft science.

Well the nice thing about science is that if you set up the same experiment, you should get the same results. Do 50 or so experiments, and you will be able to identify a bad apple. And science places a high value for reproducibility of test results, and the tests results are questionable until they are consistently reproduced.

If I were Emperor, I would order the construction of several installations, with a sum of that needed 205 miles, to produce our needed oil. Of course then the Middle East wouldn't be so special anymore and their economy would decline, but oh well.

A large sample still means something.

And to assert that truth is subjective is still equivalent to asserting that there is no truth. If truth is subjective, then truth is not objective. If truth is not objective, then that is still a self-contradiction.

10 gc if you can name the movie tongue

Starship troopers.

1st one was awesome. Awesome watching Rico's girlfriend, and the rivalry he had with her new prospect on the starship. I actually laughed like hell when the brain bug sucked his brains out.

2nd one kinda gay. Although, I thought the nudity from the blonde was cool, and Dax was a good actor.

3rd one, Maurauder. I can't wait until it gets out!

Now give me my money.

As for the idea of military service bringing citizenship, naw. Maybe it can be an option, but not the only option. Education, public accomplishments, and income should count too.

Yell,

Kind of. Rico's family was rich and lived in Buenos Aires. The bugs launched a meteorite that landed bugs, and the Federation had to blow the place up. That or the bugs just blew Buenos Aires up with the meteorite. I don't remember for sure.

Post-modernists assert that there is no truth, and any assertion for a truth is a power play or attempt to dominate another culture. It is a highly prevalent position, infesting the academia and public life in areas related to English, History, Political Science, and Art. Post-modernism is first of all false, and also it is a power play for those who use it.

The theory is wrong because it is a self-contradiction. If there is no truth, then lets ask is this true? If you say yes it is true that there is no truth, then at least something is true and you have disproved it. This argument is an overriding argument used by many prominent intellectuals, and derives from Plato's dialogues against the Sophists. There are other arguments that disprove post-modernism, but this argument is more than sufficient.

My second point is that post-modernism is itself a power play. Truth is not a power play, but the agent speaking it may be motivated by power like a politician using a truth to play on people's fears. Likewise, falsehood can also be motivated by power with lies or half-truths. In the case of post-modernists, this is the case. Their very belief system is a power play because they assert that all claims of truth are power plays. In doing so, they are giving a claim of truth, and by their own logic it is a power-play they're pulling off. In fact, every post-modernist I met was doing that exact same thing, often by trying to give themselves immunity from criticism and enabling them to push their positions through.

And there's my rant against post-modernism. They are the scum of the earth.

Well at least the EU believes something that's right. Voting should be restricted to people with university degrees or who make upper middle class incomes.

BW,

I fail to see how any of that is socialist. Everything you suggest indicates that the majority of professors are centrists and have relaxed moral standards. Socialism is equivalent to a mostly command economy. Where does it say that that view is mostly held by professors?

And yes religion is not taught in schools. Why should it be? Empirical data enables us to identify the means to realize a desired outcome. Prayer does not. When has prayer ever worked better than experience?

Someone please send BW to college. He really doesn't have any idea what goes on there. He thinks there is always socialist professors teaching socialism, but that is wrong.
