Back in the beginning of the US, the nation was highly decentralized and was considered as a federation of states who exercised great autonomy. At the time, states could do things that are unheard of today, such as print their own money etc. But with the result of the civil war, state autonomy increasingly diminished both politically and socially. Today, states operate as though they were provinces of a nation-state, and American people no longer identify themselves with their state, but their nation.

So in function the US operates like a nation-state, but we still have some remaining things of the long-dead federation. I think we should remove them and fully embrace the political and social reality that the US is now a full blown nation-state, not a federation of autonomous states as it was in its infancy.

Lets stop calling ourselves United States of America, and lets rename state to province.

Now we could call ourselves America, but that would seem odd since we are located in North America, and there is a South America beneath our own continent. The Canadians are equally justified in calling themselves Americans with this logic.

In the past, states have called themselves by the their tribe, such as France (Franks) or the dominating city Roman Empire (Rome) or Athens (Athens). However, no such option exists in the US. Though we could call ourselves the New Yorkan Empire, nobody would go with that. However, since we are in fact the most powerful nation in the world with military bases on every continent and in many nations, with the ability to pursue a unilateral foreign policy, I think it's very fitting to call ourselves the Empire of America. In that way, we can still call ourselves Americans and it would still be fitting to do so. Now the problem with this is that past empires in history were usually ruled by an emperor, however the British changed all that because they had a powerless king and the parliament was the main governing body of the British Empire. So lets take a step further than the British and call ourselves an empire with only a republican government and no emperor.

Long live the American Empire! The Empire will strike back at you!

Lol that's the thing about Minnesota. Most are conservative outside the twin cities, but the people in the cities are bloody crazy! And I mean crazy, way different culture.

I don't see why the Republicans chose our state, it's such a dumb state. It's just a bunch of Swedes.

I went on youtube and listened to her speak, and I didn't find it annoying. I also found her pretty good looking. She's old and that affects beauty ofc, but she looks good on camera and seems very intelligent.

Glad, I'm surprised you have a girlfriend, lol. I figured you were in worse shape than Yell.

She has a degree in journalism, and minored in political science. She's educated.

As for her looks, even though she's aged a lot, I would so do her. Would I do Angela Merkel? Hell no! It's so unfair to compare her with Merkel.

Did you know that Obama is a relative of Cheney?

Anyhow, McCain made a good choice. She looks good on tv, and solidifies McCain's support among the evangelicals.

Gladiator,

Not take me seriously eh? I have been an active member of the IC politics forum for six years! I was here in the golden days when we had intelligent leftists like Freya, JA is gay, ThunderHawk, and Equilan. Those were the good old days, with furious debates. How dare you not take me seriously!

However, it's still funny when people take my psychopathic remarks seriously. I only do it for pure entertainment. But on a serious note, if America bombs a lot of people in a third world country, I really don't care. I'm not a moral crusader by any means. I am committed only to power principles, and sadly power sometimes comes with the cost of life. When a thread is made about some moral topic, I often feel a great urge to make a psychopathic remark.

Hey now. I eat easy mac, oatmeal, and wheaties. That's my whole diet, seriously, and I do great.

Now it was better when I had mom's cooking. That girl who also slept over sometimes and cooked for me was great as well, but I suck at cooking.

It's very unfair and oppressive to the poor. In America, it's actually the working class that is getting overweight, because they need to rely on foods that are less nutritious and cheaper (McDonalds). For wealthier individuals, we can pay for more expensive, healthier foods.

Simply put, policies must adapt to circumstances if a power structure desires to continue.

Capitalist elites may at times support welfare-type reforms to pacify the working class if they are desperate.

Exactly.

But Capitalism can accommodate the masses when social pressures force it to. If you have power and you want to keep it in the face of great pressure, you need to make concessions. It works.

No, it only explains why Capitalism can never accommodate morality. But it works because it gives power and is more efficient than any other means of economic power.

The world is economically interdependent, but states continue and probably will continue to exist. A world government is just not possible right now, because of the way power is currently structured and it would be just too inefficient.

As for the US policing the world, I agree. We should aim for a balance of power and build strategic coalitions, rather than just act and treat our allies like they are our subjects. That kind of policy, we shall call it the Bush policy, is expensive, makes enemies, and pushes the balance of power out of balance - which increases the risk of war or other costly international events.

One American is worth 100,000 third worlders. So not hypocritical. Killing 90 children in Afghanistan is similar to the extermination of a bee hive.

This thread is the thread for everything politically related, that for whatever reason may be too insignificant (like too short or childish) for a thread of its own.

Mods: I won't cry if you delete this thread, but I think it should be here smile.

I would go for the nuns first. I have found Christian girls who make chastity vows to be pretty easy.

Yes I know exactly what I wrote. I'm not drunk or impaired in any way. I stand by what I wrote.

Egoism is a virtue.

One reason to hate Obama is his policy that the US should increase its participation in foreign aid, and in fact reward students with student aid for participation in the peace corps and community service. The last we need is more of the "save the world" subculture.

Yes, I have nothing but contempt for people who want to "save the world." People who commit to community service, charity, and foreign aid are evil, and Obama wants to expand evil.

I think he means fighting for peace is a contradiction. It's a contradiction as much as raping a virgin.

A virgin that's being raped isn't a contradiction at all tongue>>

That's debatable, but his quote only makes sense if it is contradiction. You can say that by being raped, you are no longer a virgin.
