Topic: Censorship in America - The Reversal.

Perhaps it was Einsteins' FCC Rants (Which i agree with), or the fact i'm bored at work - Either way i'm push out some of my thoughts on Censorship, and it's true effects - Some of this is commonly accepted knowledge while some might be revolutionary thought to some of you, either way, drink it up.

So, i want to start with some interesting facts/stats ---

Due to the nature of these stats i'm going to use 2 nations to backdrop my thoughts, and a survey that was conducted in 2001 by Durex.

The 2 nation are obviously the USA, and our little friend in the pacific Japan.

Japan is known well over for their lack of censorship in media, most profoundly in issue dealing with sex. A nation where it's not uncommon to see nude females, or sexual euphemisms in children's cartoons, they take things a step further by even having game shows that involve sexual acts, or things such as 2 contestants from opposite teams, both undergo sexual stimulus, the first one to "Blow their load" loses that round, the method of stimulus is determined by a wheel that is spun ---- So clearly sex is far from an issue the Japanese find to be offensive -- Americans however will freak out if Miley Cyrus does a little dance that involves a pole, of which did not even mimic exotic pole dancing, merely was a prop, or her whole "Sexting" scandal. In a nation where a media frenzy will erupt if a celebrity has a "Nip Slip", and careers are ended because of personal sexual practices, one must ask to what ends are these huge differences really portraying.

One would think, that the nation that censors sex to appear as some sort of earthly taboo, would be nearly devoid of fornication, while one who's very culture embraces it beyond that of a natural aspect, and more of a entertainment one would be ripe with bunny-like humping.

The truth is dramatically quite the opposite :

Ahh I am happy we have a new thread starter! YAY!

Imperial I wish to point out some other cultural issues you miss.

1) Japans working hours

2) Japans shame system

3) Japans tight knit families

4) Japan typically segregates males and females

5) the Japanese mentality on females.

This makes Japan an extroidinarily, in my humble opinion, a bad example to use.

Do not forget the issues of the United States either

1) many badly managed families

2) no segregation except in sports

3) no shame in anything

4) more drug usage

5) less hours worked, more loafers

6) a what's in it for me mentality

Apples to Oranges imho

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

While i won't disagree that social, and professional methodology may leak into sexual practice, the point still sticks - it's basic human sociological behavior -  If they outlawed holding hands in public, people would start holding hands as often as they could - Esp. Americans we just love to break what we think to be imposed conformity in our social lives, the last 10 years of the PC movements has been all about battling social conformity in sexual practices -- The fact that holding hands isn't considered taboo makes it kinda boring.

Consider this, Missionary sex in a bed room -- Ok, sex, feels good, ect.
Rear Entry Sex in the back of public bus with passengers present - If that doesn't get your blood pumping, then your dead.

Perceived notions of censorship drives people to eat the forbidden fruit. Stop forbidding the fruit, and people will grow bored of it, and stop eating it.

Re: Censorship in America - The Reversal.

You could also add the low rates of drug usage in Holland (where weed is decriminalised and they have softer policies on other drugs) compared with any other industrialised nation.  Completely agree, the more you are told NO the more determined you are to succeed in doing that which you are told against doing.

Want to go back? The whole Adam and Eve creation myth. Forbidden fruit will be eaten. If God hadn't told them NO, I believe they wouldn't have eaten it, or it would have taken a hell of a lot longer.  It is a basic part of simple human curiosity.

Re: Censorship in America - The Reversal.

Agreed, but aside from the validity of that notion, the question is why say "NO" if you know it's gonna be ignored, even create more desire to commit the act? Is there a hidden agenda, or what!?

As evidence against this claim I call to the stand Chris_Balsz to testify how forbidden his fruit is.

I am convinced that if a beautiful woman were to sit on Chris' lap, he would be intoxicated and give in to his urges.

Re: Censorship in America - The Reversal.

You would be wrong. Sadly you have no money, or else I would make a bet with you on it, as large as could be done.

His faith is my faith.

Noir tried for a long time, avogardo tried for a while, decimus/ilu try periodically...

I can unignore that last one, but the other two I never will.

Those without faith cannot truly understand it.

This is something relevent since each persons ethics, faith, and peer pressure makes for this thread on sex and censorship.

The differences are there.

Re: Censorship in America - The Reversal.

damn I should have made that bet too

I wouldnt trust a stranger who did that

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: Censorship in America - The Reversal.

Avogardo? I remember him, last i remember i couldn't stand him and stopped replying to his replies, total annoyance.
