Topic: Tennessee Flood

Thought I would come check the forum and see if any of you other Americans even noticed the tragedy going on in the mid south. Just so you know, there is still a lot of water, but we are beginning to dry out and pick up the pieces.



Also, I watched live on Monday our governor sign the paperwork that was sent to the president requesting that Tennessee be declared a disaster area. All I have to say about this is, " Tennessee to New Orleans - This is how you get FEMA help quickly and avoid a huge loss of life."  We had no time to prepare for this. The storm seemed like any other storm. Officials are saying this is one of those floods that only occurs every 500 years or so.

Lucky for me, apartment buildings don't wash away so easily. Still had to call the office to have the carpet dried out from all the water. I didn't get hit nearly as bad as people just 10 minutes down the road.

I was watching CNN the other night and got really ticked off at some environmentalist jerkwad. He was going on and on and on about the oil leak in the gulf. Yeah, that's bad, but people lost everything they owned in a natural disaster not too far north of that oil. Over half a state has to rebuild and in just Nashville alone, it's going to cost several billion. If I remember correctly, the last estimate may have even put that number into the trillions. We have thousands who are now homeless. Over 20 people lost their lives due to the flood. I guess because we didn't all go mad and start looting everything in sight, or hold up in a superdome waiting for the president to ride in on his horse and save us, that we aren't newsworthy.  Anderson Cooper did ONE show on us and then he's back to devoting an entire week to that oil spill and failed car bombing. We're going to need help rebuilding. Would be nice to get some attention from those whom we've helped out in the past. We're called the Volunteer State because we are ready and willing to go help out where ever help is needed; but when it's us who need help no one gives a damn.

That doesn't count. If we just went ahead and annexed Mexico, they wouldn't be illegal anymore and we could send in our military to take care of their drug cartel problem.

Then we would have a plague of -legal- immigrants, doesn't stop them from snatching jobs, facilitating prostitution, sex trade, drug trafficking, petty crimes/garden felonies, then of course they can legally abuse federal aid and welfare programs, ect --- a legal Mexican can be a bigger headache then an illegal one.

Natural born citizens do a great job of facilitating prostitution, sex trade, drug trafficking, petty crimes/garden felonies on their own. Let's not forget that the jobs they are taking are mostly non-union construction jobs, landscaping, house cleaning and other hard labor jobs. Last year I lost my job not to an illegal immigrant, but to someone who never has any intention of stepping foot in this country to begin with. The company I worked for owned offices in India. Guess who got my job when they decided I was too expensive to keep on? For what they were paying me, they could hire 8 over in India. Pissed me off, of course, but I came to terms with it and have moved on. Make no mistake, I'm still pissed, but I'm not going to spend all my time whining about it.

Now then. Back on topic. The Flood in Tennessee.


Army Corp of Engineers is saying that the flood was one of those that only happens once in a thousand years. Others have said it is more like once in 500 years, and still others claim once in 200 years. Doesn't really change the fact that many business were also damaged, some beyond repair. The Wal-Mart in my home town had at least 3 feet of water inside. All that merchandise and food is ruined.I think the only thing that survived was stuff on the upper shelves.

The Feds are not ignoring us. Only the media is ignoring us. The flooding began on a Saturday. By Monday our governor was signing papers requesting that Tennessee be declared a federal disaster area. The next day, the president approved that request. FEMA has been down here since that time assessing the damages and processing claims. Many places that were hit hard were not in a flood plain and most people there did not have flood insurance. They didn't have flood insurance because most insurance companies will not give it to you unless you are in a flood plain or you demand it enough times. They always tell people they don't need it if they're not in a flood plain. Well, all of Tennessee just became a flood plain in a matter of 2 days.

Back on topic, good luck with the reconstruction effort. I've experienced a flood up close and it's not pretty.
