Is it possible that it was always going to happen like that, that there was nothing anyone could do to prevent it, that, at the end of the day, angry-shooty-muslim-man was plain lucky?

Problem with gun control is that it is a law. Criminals by definition do not obey laws therefore your premise is flawed. Eliminating manufacturing of firearms will simply make them go underground and lose the huge taxes that come from purchasing firearms. Ergo Gun Control is a flawed concept that will ultimately destroy a country. Penn and Teller said it best in their Bullshit series... Criminals do not obey the laws of rape, theft, murder or torture, why on earth would they obey a law on guns?

People would be rushing to buy as many guns as possible before the deadline.  Then charge obscene prices to sell them illegally.  Did you know you can buy a Semi automatic rifle and also order a kit seperately online to make it fully automatic:/.  Point is, there is a way around any law, especially gun control.
