I agree that something should be done to rejuvenate Politics, but ultimately that will involve banning certain people.

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

1. The politics forum offers me informations and different views from other nations and cultures. It is not an specific forum for scientists, just very diffrent people typing their views. Well and it is Flint. It is fun reading his stuff. He gives me the feeling of an alien from Mars talking about his views. wink As Flint wrote above, this forum lives and dies with him.

2. He/she may participate on the never ending struggle between left and right in a global scale. But he/she has to understand that the definition of what is left or right is not really set. In the US view a "liberal" is a leftist (socialist). In the european view a liberal is in the center between left and right. The same problem has the definition of "conservative".

3. We want to change Flint in a democrat wink The politics forums is a theater with actors and a program. Most have their views and slap the others with their statements. In the end someone wins or loses a debate. If the outcome is a surprise, than it is even more interesting, because it doesn't follow the normal program.

4. I am not contributing much. If i do, than just to show my view of the matter. I am not for this small talk and trolling.

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

I am not an emotionless robot, meant to have a "logical" discussion.  If I wanted a logical discussion we would genetically been born Vulcans and lived in a world called Star Trek.  If our nations leaders can't reason logically, why the hell are we supposed to?

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

Key, in my opinion logical in this instance doesn't mean pure logic, it means having reasoning behind your viewpoint such that you can argue your opinion without resorting to 'but I'm right and you are wrong' sort of mentality, which leads to childish bickering and then flames and trolls..

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

@Key

Not to mention that if you can't logically defend your emotional appeals, there is no basis upon which to follow your view.

Someone who tells a sympathetic story about poverty in Africa may rally people behind them.  But unless they can logically explain what to do and where to go, they are simply leading people blindly.

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

Logic is a tool for evaluating arguments. It isn't meant to reveal what path we should go on.

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

Then what is the tool to reveal the path people should choose, if not logic?

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

What you desire or value. Want to kill people? Then being efficient and stealthy in your methods is where your logical powers will be focused.

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

1: Logic is still meant as a way to determine the approach.  If you want to kill people, you have to somehow determine a method to most effectively do so.  Otherwise, you're doomed to failure.
2: How do you deal with conflicting desires, then?
3: How about the way society as a unit should move?  Is there a collective emotion, aside from those associated with major events, such as 9/11 or victory at WW2?

Re: Metadebating, Part 1: Why are you here?

Oh, like the national debate on Illegal Immigration.  People talk a lot but don't do nothing, and the minute someone does something, everyone bitches about it...right?

Logically Arizona legislature got fed up with dealing with Illegal Immigrants and therefor, made it illegal to reside in the State of Arizona if your an illegal migrant.  So they done something about it, now everyone is up in arms.

So, when you come to "solutions" to any national problem, your damned if you do, and damned if you don't.
