The reason for a militia is that the Guard, federally funded, is only answerable to the Feds in a dispute.

Considering a militia is scary when doubling it with blocking illegal Federal mandates.

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

That's one step away from civil war in my opinion.. My American history is a little flaky, but didn't very similar happen when the South rose up all those years ago?

The first steps were numerous lawsuits, laws at the State level against the feds, and large gatherings of upset people.

That started last year.

The second stage was lone wolf type action's from both sides and small group actions by civilians.

The third stage was the formation of large state sponsored militias.

The final stage... Civil War...

We lose our AAA rating this year or next.

China has been slowly divesting itself of treasuries in exchange for mines, oil wells, and physical assets and often at a decent 'loss' to close the deals quickly.

we already lost it...they just keep giving us teh AAA letter grade, but last 90-day auction the Treasury upped rates to 4% (vs 1.8% savings rate) and it was still so undersubscribed the Federal Reserve printed dollars to buy T-notes

this is called "monetizing the debt", under the crooks and incompetents driving the train now, it will only continue
printing dollars to loan to the Treasury so the OMB reports "revenues up" to Congress
ordering banks to pay fees to the Fed instead of raising interest rates
its not new, just new to America, and whereever its been tried its easier for the public just to overthrow the government than honor the debt

The National Guard is nothing more than State militia, subsidized by both the federal government and local state governments.  To be called upon in case of National Emergency whether by the state or by the federal government.

Many state politicians don't exactly agree what constitutes an emergency, and many argue about the "chain of command" of who the Guard is actually supposed to take orders from.

Chain of command for National Guard units does not include any civilian authority.  State Governors want to use the National Guard for anything must make a request, which may be refused, by the National Guards high command.

The funding of any state militia is frowned upon by the federal government, and any militia can be absorbed by the National Guard by law.

You seriously have to read the fine print on State-Hood and the "arming of civilian armies/militia's",  it's really interesting reading.

Any Guard member which refuses an order from the chain-of-command, can be courtmartialed at best, executed for treason at worst.

That's not what I heard, Key; to mobilize the National Guard in Louisiana, President Bush had to ask the Gov. of LA to sign off. Also in 1991 Gov. Wilson ordered the National Guard into Los Angeles after the Rodney King verdict riots.

well in Katrina 2005 they did have a problem because Bush asked for the National Guard to be 'federalized' before the storm hit, and Gov. Landreaux said no.  Then the storm passed and the levees broke in NO a few days later, and they had to try to mobilize with no power, roads out and interrupt the Katrina recovery deployment across 7 other states.

i think the National Guard have a state command for deployment in that state under the Governor, and the governor okays their deployment into the regular Defense Dept for federal emergencies; in time of war they serve as part of the Defense Dept withotu the Gov being involved.  The DoD handles the transition planning and the NG trains to do that transition.

I think what OK is doing is raising a militia separate of teh National Guard, which they probably can do given the 2nd and 10th Amenments.  the constitution governs the various National Defense Acts not vice versa

A militia usually is an unkept mob with guns.  With little training, less communications skills, and far to many opinions.  That's why the national guard is trained to follow orders.  Are they going to train their militia along the lines of the armed forces, or are we going to have a bunch of backwater dust bowl beer drinkers with a shotgun going around yelling YEEHAAAAA.

So if Oklahoma has the National Guard, and the National Guard is supposed to follow the orders of the Governor of a state...why the HELL do they need a militia?  Answer that pusscakes.

They want an armed force seperate from the federal government to follow the orders of the state exclusively.  Which is nothing more than stating to the US government that, "We're arming our populace for whatever may come next."

So, what's supposed to come next that they would need a militia for even though you people are stating that the National Guard is supposed to follow the orders of the chain of command of a local state government.

???

No, the citizens carry guns because of an outdated amendment to the constitution that was put in place during the Civil War to create a standing militia of townsfolk to shoot at the Rebels as they passed through towns.  Ironically enough this has now lead to the creation of more Militias not under Federal control..

Not to mention that there are mixed loyalties within the National Guard.  Even if the National Guard is structurally supposed to follow the governor first and foremost, the people recruited within the organization won't necessarily believe that, as they were recruited in a world where the federal and state levels weren't at risk of conflict.

An added militia would recruit people with the assumption that this militia adheres to the state, not federal, level first and foremost.  Much easier to ensure loyalty to the state under that recruitment paradigm.
