Topic: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

In a period where unemployment and under-employment is at 20% major companies are declaring layoffs, reduced benefits, reductions in retirement pay and cost increases... all due to ObamaScareCare.

AT&T says it will lose 1 billion this year. Analysts are also concerned that some companies teetering on the edge will fold.

My guess is this ObamaScareCare will make a lot of headlines that Dems won't like.

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

That post is proof you are a biased poster, and a stupid choice as mod.

You let your emotions control you,you are Sith.

Re: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

What? I was merely posting a joke following Ilu..
your claim it's an emotional attack is just ludicrous!
Also I'm no mod, and never was.

if you want the translation:
"Hi Coco"
"Hi, buttman"
"Ehm, I think a parrot just crawled up your ass"
"He rents it"

As you can see, the joke's pure nonsense, not even offensive. It wasn't meant as an insult....

Re: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

ah the interwebss

in all previous generations if an American wanted to be an asshole to Europeans it usually cost so much we didn't bother

but now, it's easier than doing real work

you must have a weird culture over there if you show a person a cartoon of a man taking a bird in his asshole, and saying "you are the man with a bird in his asshole" and it doesn't indicate some sort of insult.

Re: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

Besides, this thread didn't have a real topic anyway. It was just another OMGZORZ! OBAMA'S HEALTHCARE SUCKS!-thread.
Compagnies are letting employers go every other day around the world. It's a typical thing that happens at the end of a recession..

Re: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

Thinking about tomorrow still seems to worry the conservative americans.

The health care plan isn't just to work immediately, it has to be put in place and many companies who made "wrong" choices in the past will pay the consequences.
Funny enough is that our "silly" health care plan, deemed crazy, has caused that we in the Netherlands have had one of the lowest amounts of increase in the unemployment sector in all of Europe. Not even comparing to the US, we're doing quite well considering there is a recession.

So... we must be crazy.

This forum is stupid.

Why is half the spending going to kickbacks and special interests then?

We have low increases in unemployment too

its happens when people giving up looking for work, outnumber people just fired

no great idea or big change ever works 100% for the first time. you're right in that but it does start a series of events that will eventually lead to a well working system. that is what we ppl call change. and republicans  call: evil, communism, facism, etc.

unless off course you were referring to health care in general but I know you're not stupid to say healthcare can never work. in that case: most european countries. the LEADING economic power says hi.

the only reason I see these changes leading up to disaster in stead of succes is because of you doomthinkers and ppl who fear losing out on some fat cash that want this to fail. and put emphasis on every small side effect/ negative effect in the process of the change instead of focussing on the good things these changes can bring you guys.

Re: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

Why must we double spending on healthcare when we already spend more than any European nation?

because you've got plenty more ppl to take care of. it's natural you guys need to pay more and it's a known fact that the bigger a nation the more inefective it is. so you could work on that but you'll always need more money to accomplish the same as a smaller nation;

don't know the budget you guys have currently but if you guys invested as much in the health of your ppl then you do in the weapons to kill other ppl america would truly be a land of dreams I think;

Re: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

...so we get health care, so the businesses say, screw that we're not going to pay people health care.  So they're going to fire people?  Fine.  Pretty soon they'll go out of business and no longer be able to afford board of director salaries.  Obviously we don't need a bunch of companies that don't give a rats ass about their workers.  Let them fail.

Re: Many firms declare layoffs and cutbacks

2010 Federal Health and Human Services dept spent $816.198 billion
http://www.hhs.gov/asrt/ob/docbudget/2010budgetinbrief.pdf

2009 total national budget of Spain : $536.3 billion
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/sp.html

and in 2010 HHS spent $879 billion, a one-year increase of $70 billion
and that is without a national health plan

we do have Social Security Disability for the disabled, Medicare for the poor and elderly
so that's maybe 120 million out of 308 million

and then there's 50 state medical budgets, adn about 1500 county medical budgets...most "government" hospitals are county facilities

usual statistic thrown around is that one-sixth of our $14,000 billion economy is spent on healthcare by somebody or other.
