You seem to miss the point avogadro. What I tried to explain was that homosexuals don't equal poor soldiers, per se. Thus they shouldn't be discriminated or even insulted because of it. The ancient greeks, were merely an illustration of that conclusion. Until a profound and extensive study shows otherwise, homosexuals shouldn't be banned from the army.

If you want it in a clear, although rather silly, deduction:
Premise 1: Homosexuals are equally good soldiers as heterosexuals
Premise 2: Good soldiers are being kept in the army
Conclusion: Homosexuals should be kept into the army.

premise 1: people with different native languages are equally good soldiers
premise 2: good soldiers are being kept in the army
conclusion: people of any language should be kept in the army...

It's true that STD's pass on faster among gay men, but protection is the key here! I'm sure one of the world's best armies can ask that of its soldiers..
Still, arevage percentages of homosexuality are between 10% and 15%. I'm sure it's even less in the army (however, we have no clue due to the same lack of research and openness!). Assuming you have regular medical checkups, I don't think that's a problem.
Oh also, weren't STD's a great problem in past wars anyway (like Vietnam)? Armies always encourage prostitution, and that always brings an increased chance of STD spreadage.

Youre saying it like all homosexual soldiers have anal sex the whole time. Maybe you have some dreams about being homosexual that drives you to be pounded in the ass everyday, but I dont think this is realistic thinking. They are not more sex driven then a heterosexual male.

Its not even allowed to have sex on a foreign mission in the first place being a soldier.. (And especially not between soldiers what so ever)
