I am shocked, but here it is...

45% of doctors consider retiring if ObamaCare (Henceforth referred to as ObamaScareCare) is passed.

Think I am making this up?


I sorta wish I was...


This bleak future was found by Investors Business Daily... a Neutral organization as there exists... and it shows the anger Doctors have with the plan as the House and Senate have done.

Two thirds of Doctors polled oppose the entire Health Care bill, and nearly half could retire.



They are saying "HE LIES" about reducing costs and increasing the number covered. Simply put, there is a fixed number of doctors for at least 8 years (Takes a while to train them up, there is no surge currently training up) and this means they would be the source of so called improvements... which is mathematically impossible of course.



Of course the AMA says they have different numbers, but they represent 18% of Doctors and have lost a LOT of doctors for their position which is extremely pro-Obama.



More than 800,000 doctors were practicing in 2006, the government says. Projecting the poll's finding onto that population, 360,000 doctors would consider quitting.



This means there would be nearly 1 doctor per 750 patients. This would limit your visit time in a strong way... 260 working days (assuming a 40 hour work week... do we need tired doctors doing heart transplants?). This is 2085 hours a year they can check up on patients, do surgery's, and such...

This means, between your eye doctor, your knee doctor, your foot doctor, your physical, your general care doctor, and your gynecologist, you would have 2.7 hours of care available.



Tell me that's not rationing... Please tell me you think that math works... you will lose votes on this forum if you do... and normally that's hard for a lefty to do.


My two ER visits (Pulled shoulder) and one general care visit took 3 hours of doctors time last year. That's not including my Dentist work (cleaning, 2 caps, xrays, etc).


Your not going to get care, your going to get less than care.


The Doctors have said they are against this.




Doctors, insurance companies, the Conservative right all have backed a simple, an easy, a no cost for the government, a means to reduce the cost for the consumer of a plan....

This plan is to eliminate the barriers to interstate trade of health care plans. I might look into just starting a lawsuit, seeking a health plan in a state cheaper than Oregon... to kick start that... Lord knows I will have enough money soon if I desire.

are you claiming these doctors would rather not have a job than work under obama's healthcare law?

i think what's really is being shown is that older doctors that are close to a retiring age anyway will retire a bit earlier, because they don't want to bother learning how the new system works. that's logical, and doesn't harm anyone in any way.

believe me when i say that not one single doctor that recently finished his university studies will retire because of this.

Yeah and it is younger doctors who just don't want the paperwork required by the Feds to get paid.   Nobody borrows $100,000 for med school so they can spend 20 hrs a week filing forms, but that's what its headed towards.

In as big of news....

Walgreens has ceased taking medicare/medicaid prescriptions, citing the pending legislation.


Additionally a number of hospitals have announced they will be ceasing care for medicaid/medicare patients due to the pending legislation.


These of course are the ones who are making sure of their bottom line first, this will not be the last by far.



Democrats who have not looked at the bill, you should know, your going to kill your party if this monstrosity passes.

Stop eating so much crappy food and many of America's Healthcare problems will be solved. Recently got back from a trip to Las Vegas and some surrounding national/state parks.

Whilst the country and the people are great (US customs excluded) the food is crap. It's impossible to find yourself a proper healthy meal. Turkey sandwich? How about EIGHT layers of the stuff, with a little bit of salad and a crapload of dressing. That's what passes for healthy.

Could be Vegas though, haven't seen much of the rest of the country. tongue

It shows we have food prices lower than your nation, imho... we have food always available, and trust me when I say this... we throw away enough food to feed Belgium. Just at the shipping/receiving level.

Low food prices is not to be proud about. The reason prices are low is because either the quality is questionable and/or food-sector workers are poorly paid.
High quality organic produce is not cheap in America; whereas, unlimited chicken wings with a pint of beer seems de facto...

Most Americans have low savings, so clearly American living is not as affordable as advertised. The reason is that it is a unequal society. Those on a good salary have great access to good food, healthcare, gyms, etc.

Anyway to the maths. 800000 doctors for a population of 300000000 is one per 375 people.
This is about 2.7 doctors per 1000. Japan has 1.9 doctors per 1000 by way of comparison.

I don't think doctors includes opticians or dentists. Nor will it include many alternative 'doctors', or some specialised physicians or the cosmetic industry. Nor does it consider nursing. Most local doctors (GPs) are next to useless anyway, and communities would be as well served with nurses.

A large proportion of the population can go a year or more without seeing a doctor. For me,  haven't seen a doctor in over two years and doubt I'll make a visit this year.

In terms of doctors retiring. Yes, some will. Some already plan to retire. There's always slack in the system. In the UK we have recently graduated 10000s of medical students and doctors who cannot get jobs - yet we have numerous foreign doctors. The US won't suffer - as it has been already stated, most people will prefer to work rather than not. Also, there's always resistance to change and a lot of moans.

If America cannot fix its runaway healthcare payments, it will go bankrupt. Totally. Your food bills will soar as the dollar loses value and inflation becomes untamable. You will have to cut 1000s of public services, and you will be shot as a nation.

Obama is not the person to lead. But his too-small, too-complex measures are at least a nod in the right direction.

Oh and Einstein America eats enough food to feed 500 million and throws away food enough for another 500million. That's enough for itself and almost all the undernourished in the world. But your country is not alone and food profligacy is equally bad now in the UK, and not exactly saintly in any european nation.

Ignore it all... there wont be rationing, there wont be anger, and Doctors can be paid a penny a day and still will work! Yeah, thats right, we can pay those rich doctors a penny a day and they wont go into stock trading, private practices in the Bahamas, or change to a more money making sub-occupation... no way!

Can we come over there then, when 1/3 of our doctors quit?  You don't get it.  We're gonna declare that if you want a checkup every week, it's guaranteed by the government.  Think we got enough doctors now for that?
