somebody wrote a good article about what Fascism really meant.  You could earn a fat profit, so long as you earned it in the National Interest, as defined by the State.  And the State had every reason to reward patriotic businessmen at the expense of evildoers.  And if that meant the State colluded with industrial councils, so be it.

You have only to look at how Obama tried to use TARP and the stimulus his first year to see where he'd have gone if allowed.  He even used muscle on behalf of unions against the State of California, ordering the state to come to terms with the govt employee union or else forgo federal stimulus dollars.  He got GM's CEO fired by diktat.  He promised banks that cooperated with his secret deals a larger profit and threatened complainers with very public audits.
