I think we should escalate the war and show them that the empirical method is superior to their ancient religion. Destroy Mecca and attribute the victory to the power of science and the powerlessness of Allah. Ruin their culture and institutions, as Machiavelli suggests.

Now I agree, I think the US should put aside the war on islam/terror/whatever and focus on one of the other never ending wars they've declared (Poverty, Drugs, etc.)

Then why was it back in the 60's, 70's and 80's that we had nothing but airplane hijackings from terrorists who had originated in the middle east. Seems to me, when they want money, they take hostages. When they want the government to change, they take hostages. When they don't like the way people think, they just blow them up, behead them, stone them to death...
I'm sorry but the whole muslim extremist thing is a bit absurd. Whatever a muslim doesn't like they throw stones at it. And that was the law ABIDING muslims. They did not just use words, they riot the same as people do down in southern california. But their religious leaders take it one step to far, by expousing to go forth and comit violance not only against "rampaging hordes of infidels against allah," but against their very own people who live in fear of them.

in the dark ages the church did the same thing more or less with the crusades, etc.
only difference now is muslim still find ppl that are willing to go to those extremes while the church has lost most of it's real power( for the better probably)
you can't just blame the muslims.
either allow all religions or ban them all. but don't designate 1 religion as bad because of some extremists.
otherwhise:

all belgians are dumb
all dutchies are cheap
all french stink
all irish are alcoholics
all africans are poor
all turkish ppl are criminals
all black ppl are gangsters
etc. etc. you get my drift;
religious stereotypes are just the same as other stereotypes ppl use. only difference now is that this time even a government( of a coutry that calls itself the most technological advanced and developed) is using those stereotypes to manipulate their citizens more or less.
