Topic: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

So Wright has been Obama's pastor for about 20 years and is known for some outrageous stances on various issues, many of which can be described as unproven science (black kids score lower on typical (white oriented) intelligence tests because they think with different parts of the brain) provocative (e.g. god damn america) and some of which are downright nasty and could be described as racist and hate speech (e.g. AIDS was genetically engineered to kill off black people). He's also known as an opinionated preacher, meaning he does not hold back on his personal (political) views on subjects during his sermon so it's likely he has held sermons or most if not all of his views in church.

As the preachings of Wright started to trickle into the media Obama quickly held a speech where he claimed that he sat in church but not necessarily agreed with what Wright was saying and that he felt some of Wright's positions were indeed outrageous. Now I think it's a bit hard to have someone as a pastor for years in spite of such sentiments, but I agree with the basic premisse that just because you're listening all the time doesn't mean you're agreeing all the time. I guess you could call this a 90

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

I smell a black supremacist. If he were not a black supremacist, he would not have listened to him for 20 years. People just don't continue to attend church for 20 years to listen to a radical crazy person give a sermon, unless they agree with them, ok? It's possible, I suppose, but it isn't plausible.

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

Genuine question because I don't know. At what stage in his life did he attend this church? Was it as he grew up, say from ages of four till twenty four, or totally as an adult? It would make a massive difference! Even so, maybe he just wanted to go to church and that was the nearest one? It's maybe a little unfair to Obama to judge him by the views of other people.

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

Yes but you see, for people like me who really hate Obama because he opposes my economic interests, I want to believe he's incompetent and evil no matter what. So I will ignore the possibility that the 20 years he attended this church was decades or years ago, and for convenience I will believe that it has been for the past 20 years.

I'm right in my own mind, and in this case don't care if evidence says I'm wrong. In this case, my mind is right! Hey at least I'm being honest with myself, and no I am not being sarcastic. I REALLY HATE OBAMA! I HATE I HATE I HATE I HATE!

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

i think he just acted differently from politicians

he acted like a normal person, that's how i would react in normal times aswell, other politicians would just move away in the first speech, but he did what he felt was needed in his own opinion not considering the campaign...he dissagreed with the issues, agreed with the person's good things

but this time wright went too far, and if any of you listened to the speech yesterday, you could tell how pissed he was...i've never seen him like that..i watch a lot of his speeches..he's a calm cool guy..he was pissed this time and that's how i know he's for real big_smile

and yeh justinian you basically represent all the people who don't vote him..you guys already have your mind set, if mind was open i'm preety sure you would all vote obama...w/e though..i think you're voting in the wrong way but it's the truth atleast u admit to it

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

Gladiator,

Yes I have my mind set, and it's been set since he started talking about supporting the estate taxes and adding new taxes on investment income. I come from a family where this means I have a lot to lose if he wins. So it's not a matter of not having an open mind, but rather I see him as a big and mean bully who I rejoice when he suffers. My dislike of him is rooted in self-interest, not something arbitrary and silly as you seem to imply. And my dislike of him is very intense, to the point I wish he were to be assassinated.

And because of this hatred, I will believe he's evil and believe in all reports that reinforce his evilness, and am quick to dismiss all those that defend or praise him.

Moreover, if he wins, I will seriously consider moving to another country.

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

to the point where he is assassinated

oh boy you really need to get your head outta your ass

and if you don't mind me asking do you feel the same about hillary?

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

Obama is somewhere in his forties, and he met Wright somewhere in his twenties. So it's after the age where you might get infatuated with people because you don't know any better. Yet he called him things like 'mentor" and "surrogate father".

"but this time wright went too far, and if any of you listened to the speech yesterday, you could tell how pissed he was"

the problem is that Wrights positions have always been known - he said nothing new in his latest speeches that he didn't say before so it's a bit cheap to shrug it off by saying "The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago" or "I wasn't there that day"; Obama only started recanting his love for Wright after it dawned on his campaign that Wright was a liability. The implication of this whole Wright affair is not only that Obama is a practicer of the politique politicienne after all, but also that he privatly genuinly supports a good deal of Wrights extremist positions.

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

ughh east..you must've not heard the whole speech that wright gave

there were some cheap shots at obama..he was making fun of obama...he made a mock of him
now call me crazy but i think someone else had a hand in this..not necessarily clinton or mccain
but someone wink

at one point i remember him making fun obama calling him his spiritual mentor..and then started dancing

point is wright is a crazy dumass... lol
and another thing obama for most those 20 years wasn't even at church..like he's been in the senate, the illionois state government, he's campaigned there....for like a year...he's been away a lot...i dont even think he's been there more than 10 sundays tongue

Re: Obama - rev. Wright backstab?

yes Wright was definatly taking shots at obama, I mentionned it with the wright quote on politicians the opening post

but the question remains: how much of Wrights positions did Obama support before denouncing him?
