@ Cloud, Yeah, I know you asked RS, but I'm bored... Simple as pie, Tick bite...(as in they could have early stage one Lyme Disease)...  Should treat with 10-14 day course of Doxycycline to be safe, (21 would be better even to be sure... 28 if other symptoms are associated with it, some would say that is excessive, but if you know anyone who's ever had Lyme, they'd tell you its nothing compared to if it progresses to stage 2, or god forbid, stage 3...) This would be definitive with positive ELISA,or Western blot in correlation with a PCR if indicated,etc). Although quite different in cost... there are far more false negatives, than false positives...)...When in doubt re-test...even a few weeks after treatment... Steer clear of prescribing Tetracycline unless absolutely necessary...Monocycline even... Advise to take with a small amount of food, as its a known irritant to the stomach, (can cause nausea and vomitting...if taken on an empty stomach in some individuals).   If further complications are indicated... A month long course of IV penicillin may be required, or Ceftriaxone if a penicillin allergy exists...
