Topic: Evo Game

This thread is meant for contructive evolution ideas. These are the guidlines:

1. post simple ideas to help increase the validity of evolution.
2. no debates or arguements. unless is to serve the purpose of clarity.
3. give one evolution advancement and the reason why it serves its pupose.

i'll go first,

Humans evolved eyelashes to aviod particles in the eyes.

I dont smoke cigarettes because i like them.  I smoke because it hides the smell of marijuana thats seeping into the hallway atm.

A squirrel's tail is used primarily for balance which enables the squirrel to maneuver quickly through the trees without falling.  It is also used as a parachute should the squirrel fall and also used as a blanket in the winter time and to communicate with other squirrels.

morbo exists to create humor, in turn this reduces stress.  this reduces crime....

How about Echidnas have spikes to protect them from predators?

More specific:

Echidnas diet mainly consists of ants and ant-like creatures which are generally
slow and yield little nutrients-per-snack. Thus the Echidnas do not need to move
anywhere as quick, and dont, so they can use less energy.

The spikes have evolved to protect them, preventing them from needing to flee
quickly -- which would require large amounts of energy.

i like that one.

Tasmainian Devils' have thick long tail and its use for storage of nutrients so in the dry seasons, when food is scarce, they can survive longer than other marcupials, granted they had eaten enough prior to build up a supply.

Brightly colored creatures are usually poisonous.  They developed toxin that protects them from predators because they have no need of a camouflage system.

Viruses constantly evolve based on the drugs used to treat them.

all insects have ultraviolet vision and flowers have ultraviolet patterns specific to each different species of flower.

this allows for more efficient pollinization because certain insects return to flowers of the same pattern.

[note: Bees, dont really do this, they need to visit nearly 20k different species of flower to produce honey]

Piranhas did not evolve what is considered to be commonsensical by most other predatory animals, which is the notion of the bigger the prey the more difficult / dangerous the effort would be in capturing it, for, as we all know, the piranhas tendency to hunt in groups has allowed them to capture and feast upon much larger prey than any individual piranha could individually - a concept most humans (especially IC players) have yet to learn, it seems.

if i remember correctly cooperation in IC is against the rules and will get people banned...

male lions have manes because:

First, it makes him look larger and stronger than he really is. This may make an intruder leave without fighting. Second, the mane helps protect the lion while fighting. The long, thick hair around its head, neck, and shoulders softens the blows of its enemy.  a lion without a mane may not survive long because he would not have the initial scare tactic to prevent fighting in the first place, then when another lion attacks, he would not have the protection of a vital area.

humans have done this.  in history, many leaders would dress with elaborite attire to prevent challeges.  in modern times, people get intimidated by the large flak jackets our troops wear.
