Topic: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/8444069.stm

food for thought.

'Osama Bin Laden died eight years ago during the battle for Tora Bora in Afghanistan, either from a US bomb or from a serious kidney disease.
Or so the conspiracy theory goes.
The theory that has developed on the web since 9/11 is that US intelligence services are manufacturing the Bin Laden statements to create an evil bogeyman, to justify the so-called war on terror in Afghanistan, Iraq and back at home.'

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

if they announced he was dead we'd feel like we're making progress and support the war to crush his buds even  more

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

The real question is: Does it matter?

Seriously. Ask yourself...

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

@morbo:
the answer is: yes. Because of the impact it would have on public opinion. Would it matter for any strategic reason? Except for public opinion that would be a no. It is very stupid to think that killing BL would stop terrorism. In fact I believe it would make a martyr of him. Giving a mental retard a mythical status. Happened so many times before.

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

write that shit on twitter and watch what happens... smile

CNN would report the story and when they realize its just a rumor they will drop it and move on.
MSNBC will track down the person that started the rumor and have them on the air.
and
FOX News will call the president a socialist.

...just a thought...*shrugs*

oh, for the record, i trust the BBC alot more than our pundit 24hour(recycled hourly until shit happens) news stations.

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

Neither side can significantly benefit from Osama Bin Laden being dead...

...so theres no point in saying he is. I.e. -- it doesn't matter.

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

instead of thinking about what the impact would be on the western nations, dont you think the news would rattle al-queda?  think about it...

what would the benefit of hiding that information be?  if it didn't matter if we knew, why would anyone hide it at all? unless ofcourse it could do the following:

raise the moral of US and NATO troops
decrease moral among the terror networks

since this hasn't happend, it is my belief that bin laden is alive(unless of course he died and his succesors keep it secret to avoid the certain moral destruction of the terror networks)

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

> raise the moral of US and NATO troops

Or it *could*:
- raise the anti-war campaigners (because the 'job' is 'done).
- remove or hamper a possible reason for a prolonged stay in Afghanistan (The U.S. wants as many as it can get).
- remove or hamper a possible reason for pushing forward in Pakistan (The U.S. wants as many as it can get).
- makes al qaeda less effective or less, less reason for military/CIA funding

I doubt 'moral destruction' would happen. These idiots are blowing them up for their extreme faith - they would
call him a martyr and someone would take his place. If anything, they'd probably try to hit back...

...Or they'd try to recruit more people.

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

oCama bIn lAden? Now I see, its all conspiracy! How very stupid of me I can see it only now.

On a more serious note: The CIA (like most intelligence agencies) capabilities are still overrated by many people. It is possible, but highly unlikely i.m.o.

Flying a plain in a building requires no real intelligence and difficult planning, despite what people might claim about it. Doing so without leaving traces is something entirely different. So my best bet would still be AQ.

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

He will never be announced dead until they 'have' someone to replace him with.  The real enemy is 'terrorism' an enemy without a face except for Bin Laden.  Thus there must always be a new face for the perpetual 'fear' that is spread throughout society.

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

Like main stream news? Fox? CNN? MSNBC? etc.

It is the goal

Fear has been the #1 element to controlling the masses since the dawn of time, going all the way back to hammurabi's code.

The fact that religion itself teaches the concept that man is evil by birth, and shouldn't attain knowledge is astounding.

When will people think for themselves?

Re: Is Osama Bin Laden dead?

People don't want to think for themselves...hence religion and its blanket question-answering
abilities. And i'm not saying that's entirely a bad thing either...
