Re: movie thread

yup

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: movie thread

Nolio needs to do his reviews.

Your = possessive. As in, "your grammar sucks."
You're = you are. As in, "you're an idiot for not knowing the difference."

Re: movie thread

Anyhoo, i'm not particularly interested in going to see Avatar, although I wouldn't mind seeing the new Sherlock Holmes movie!

Re: movie thread

Kt really really really liked it

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: movie thread

from what i heard the problem with avatar is that it looks awesome, but seriously lacks a good story.

NEE NAW NEE NAW

Primo

Re: movie thread

indeed story is a bit slacking. Hopefully Cameron will fix this in the upcoming sequels (he planned 2 incase the first one is a hit)

Re: movie thread

There is a story. Just becuz it's not blood and gore all the time doesn't mean there isn't one tongue They had to build up to the big battle.

You could even relate it to IC. Someone trying to sneak a small player into a core so they can take over from the inside tongue
Since that didn't work they decided to go brute force.

*Edit*
But also as the audience you needed to learn what made those people tick and why they do what they did.

~~Lemming of leather and lollipops~~

Right, so what are we waiting for?  Can we get this going?  Any other feedback?

"There is a story. Just becuz it's not blood and gore all the time doesn't mean there isn't one "
erm, that usually isnt my definition of there being a story or not smile
you could relate it to real life, and even real life politics as well smile

"indeed story is a bit slacking. Hopefully Cameron will fix this in the upcoming sequels (he planned 2 incase the first one is a hit)"
everything was really pretty, so one doesnt need a solid/good/real/creative/minboggling story per se, i dont expect one to be in sequels either,
he (cameron)  did succeed in pulling the viewer into a pretty world, with pretty people etc, there were all sorts of emotions displayed, i can imagine them being appealing to viewers
i wouldnt mind if he did sequels smile

till the end of time..

Re: movie thread

I went for a second time today.
Movie got even better tongue

Odd, james cameron had to know it would be contrasted with "beowulf" with angelina jolie

I just saw "donnie brasco", that was a fun flick

Re: movie thread

donnie brasco. Thats one of my favorite movies. I recently bought the extended version.
I love the way Pacino acts like a total loser and Depp is losing reality out of his sight.

Re: movie thread

Sherlock Holmes was pretty awesome. It even started out fast with a nice fight scene and had some awesome twists and turns and if i remember correctly leaves room for a sequel.

the ending was good albeit quite sudden

Re: movie thread

I compare Avatar with Star Wars: A New Hope.
New technology, different approach in movie making.

But lets face it (and I am a huge SW fan) story of A New Hope and the actors themself are below par.
Yet Star Wars is seen as one of the most influential movies in the past decades.

A new Hope had a way, way better story... there was no way to see things coming like the utter destruction of a planet, a moon sized battle station, the empire putting a homing beacon in the ship, Han coming back at the very end to save Luke's ass.

the script and charecter development were way way better too. you say alot of different sides to multiple characters, that weren't nearly as easy to predict as with the people in Avatar...

Re: movie thread

Moon sized battle station is mentioned in the first second of the movie so no suprise there.
Last 3 are also no suprises. The way the scenes were made were more unique then the story itself. Its just a 'poor guy saving the princes from a evil person' does this ring a bell? Every damm disney film had that subject in the 40s 50s and 60s

The best twist SW had was Darth Vader being Lukes dad (and in lesser way leia being his sister). However this was in Empire Strike Back and suprise that is the best SW of the three. (in my opinion tongue)

its hard to judge the predictability of star wars a new hope, because the first time i watched it, i was probably around 5...
