But you do, metaphorically speaking.  Policy in general is to subvert the freedom and dignity of the individual, subvert their being considered innocent before guilty, in order to protect the majority / corporation / government, policies which are really a smokescreen for the corporation / government / military / global elite protecting itself and its own interests.

Leaving bags in lockers while shopping is merely an example.  There are plenty more...

Shall we brainstorm some?

the only thing you have proven is that you know nothing of what you're talking about. you've been quite successful at that though, congratulations.

Re: James Bain?

@zarf: champagne!

I think what is important here is that the guy:

1.) Wasn't guilty and has been locked up, he deserves some compensation for that
2.) Could not save money from his job for his old day as he was in prison
3.) Cannot easily get a job because he is a former convict, has no job experience, and is 50 years old.

Re: James Bain?

and he's black and he has a million dollars, so he should run for Senator for the Democrats

in FL he'd win in a landslide

ask nolio

lol

I don't know wether to pity him or salute him.

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: James Bain?

Locked up for 35 years. Unjustly.

I think some people fail to realize how long 35 years is. Majority of people playing this game wouldn't have even been alive this long, myself included (25). Imagine being your age now THEN losing everything for 35 years. See how much the world have changed in those 35 years. Imagine what it would be like in another 35 years.

3 years was bad enough in jail for me. And I was MEANT to be there. If I wasn't supposed to have gone it woulda got to me after that long.

After 35 i'd want at least $100K/year of incarceration tax free. A house, work hooks ups (work for the council even)

Didn't that article say over 250 people have been proven wrongly sentenced thanks to DNA testing? thats ridiculous.

Its no fun until someone dies.

well, when you think about it... in the US, theres something like 2.3 million people in jail at any one time...  and then 250 people innocent people in the span of decades... its really a tiny, tiny fraction... in reality i would be surprised if less then a full one percent of the people convicted of felonies were innocent, 2.3 million in jail, so i would be surprised if there was less then 23,000 innocent people in jail in the US at this very moment, let alone over the span of decades...

Re: James Bain?

250 innocent people proven by DNA standards.

Not wrongly accused.

Re: James Bain?

um we see it a bit differnetly, since only about 1/8 violent crimes end with a conviction

anyhow when I go to prison I'll be guilty as hell

Re: James Bain?

What are people in jail for? I guess the hippie who had a weed planet growing in his backyard is in there for life.. theft-related (Burg, B&E etc.) must make up 50% or so? if only an eighth of all violent crimes ends up in a conviction, most people mustn't be reporting them. Or else why else have we got a justice dept. which isn't securing us from violent offenders. Unless they are being sent to rehabilative programmes which is very commendable.

Domestic violence should never be tolerated.

I wonder if he (James Bain) used to think those same thoughts... But it all got taken away in a  moment for 35 years.
Now that would suck.

Re: James Bain?

probably theft is a lot

this was a child molestation case where the victim said he recognized Bain

that's kind of hard evidence, Bain was home with his sister when it happened...lucky for him there's DNA but if they had DNA back then he'd never have been convicted

Lucky alright.

Did they get they DNA testing wrong the first time, or didn't bother because of the boys confession?

Re: James Bain?

Lol of course. But they kept the evidence as they do, and still managed to get a positive. Thats extremely lucky for him then.

Nowdays, if there is a positive id I'd imagine they would still DNA test right? they would have to to save themselves looking like idiots for sure..

Re: James Bain?

My proposed reforms

1. Those sitting on the jury must be professionals, capable of logically examining evidence and are knowledgeable of the law.
2. Eye witness testimony can not be a substitute for empirical evidence, and any case relying on witness testimony alone (even if that witness is the officer) will be dismissed.

Which is why witness testimony should be collaborated with physical evidence, or else the prosecution's case dismissed.
