Topic: Tips ?

Just recently started out and I have a good income, steady food and good intakes of endu/oct. Got 5 planets now and wondering if you lot have any basic tips for n00bies like me lol i only have a small fleet, a few lasers and only 2 portals from those five planets.. should i concentrate on certain things like research or cash factories to gain quickly ?

Also, when there is a new round.. do you lose everything? Or is that jut premium ? I donated and nothing seems to have happened.. what does prem give you ? hmm

Yeh i sound confused, but this isn't the most easiest thing to take all on board. Ta ! smile

Yours Sincerely, The Breakfast Club.

Re: Tips ?

Like give me some info on basic strats and important things i should be doing at the start. . if anyone can be assed replyin  ? lol smile@

Yours Sincerely, The Breakfast Club.

Re: Tips ?

If you are a banker (you have positive income bonus): explore and build your planets full with Cash factories and a couple of lasers
If you have a negative income bonus: explore planets and build mines, farms, refinement station and maybe a couple of occult centers and some lasers

Once you have 20+ planets you can start looking at the other things like portals, research and fleet, before that they aren't really important
After a while you will find better ways to do things and develop your own strats

Have fun

Re: Tips ?

Oright... thanks dude. Yeh I have loads of cash and I am building lots of research centres to get things cheaper and that. Got 8 planets now smile

Welcome to Imperial Conflict, trooper ! This is a game where there is much to learn, and alot of fun to be had, once you know how to do it right.

Before you join a galaxy, there are certain things you should know about :

1. You need to choose which role you want to have in the family you are about to join.

Teambased roles :

- Attacker (Hardcore, resource, opper)

A hardcore attacker is the one making the most aggressive moves for the family. Most often the race is Camaar, or a custom race (+50 Attack, +50 Science, +100 Speed, -30% Income, -30% Pop growth, and droids. Some ops are added to the mix too, Space amazement and No fear being the most usual, the rest is...personal preference)

A resource attacker is a backup to the hardcore (hc) attackers. These make some resource income on the side and therefore tend to get bigger, and have less attacks total. Usually these are the same race as the custom HC attacker. These are also usually the main bringers or resource income to the family.

An opping attacker is mostly always same as resource attackers, but have bigger focus on agents/wiz compared to other units in their total fleet counts

- Banker (Hardcore CF/Hardcore Pop/opper)

A CF banker focusses on getting cash to the family, using a combination of Cash Factories and Tax Offices to gain a maximum amount of cash, with ability to build quickly. Very often this banker is preferred in early rounds. Will have alot of planets and generally be at the top of the family if active.

A Pop banker focusses on getting cash to the family, using a combination of Living Quarters and Tax Offices to tax the crap outta their total population. Living Quarters make the pop grow thus yeah...making more cash. These types of bankers tend to make more money than CF bankers, but only if done right. They are also very sensitive to certain special operations that can hurt their income alot.

- Opper

Usually this is a partaxian these days. They make bankers shiver in their pants, cause they got special operations to hurt banker income greatly. If you know how to play a partaxian well you will most likely play as a banker with opping as a side bonus though.

Non-teambased role :

- SS (Self-sufficient)

These are in it for themselves only, produce everything they need themselves, and manage everything by themselves. The SS'ers out there are usually frowned upon, since they tend to go different ways than the family strategy, and doesnt really contribute. There have only been a few known good SS'ers, and nowadays I think they have all retired. The good ones that is.
The best SS races are usually custom made, with alittle this alittle that.

-.-.-.-.-

Conclusion : Unless you wanna play this game solo (not recommended), choose a team-based role, and if you need pointers on what to build, usually someone in your family can help you get started, and there is also tons of good strategies posted around on these forums.

Re: Tips ?

A small hint that i havent seen mentioned is that it is common to choose a spesific role, produce either cash or resorces, and focus on either attacking or production. This is because overall its most efficient for an empire to specialize in one field

(part II - So I've chosen a role, now what ?)

Hopefully by now you have chosen a team-based role, posted alittle about yourself in the family forums and maybe even gotten a few responses too.

So...a quick introduction to the game itself is in order.

Imperial Conflict is a (hourly) tick based game, where the ultimate goal is for your family to dominate the galaxy you are in.
Domination is decided through round by aggressiveness/successrate, total networth of the family, and total size (planetcount) of the family.

You should know right now this game is old, most players already know the game, and most players are assholes big enough to not care that you do not know the game. That means you get in swingin or you dont get in at all.

As a banker your objective as said earlier is to gain a high amount of planets, to build cash income buildings on them. Attackers can be helpful in the planetgaining part...for a certain fee of course. Another way to gain planets is from exploration. Exploration is mostly done from the beginning of the round, until about 66% of the round is done. After all planets have been explored, this is a wargame. Bankers will therefore need certain defenses. These are usually based on a combination portals, lasers and ground units (soldiers). When all is said and done, a banker is the family's cashcow. The family will protect it, and in return the banker will pay for the family's needs. Its that simple.

As an attacker your objective is to spread like a nasty virus all over the galaxy with only 1-2 planets in every system, combined with portals. Having a low planetcount is an attackers pride. He will pass planets gained through attacks to his bankers, and by keeping his planetcount slim, he will reduce the amount of morale lost each attack he conducts.
An attackers life IS more busy than a bankers life, you need to constantly perform core surveillance, enemy estimations and kick those bastards out who are getting too close.
Needless to say..to be a good attacker, you mostly need to have given up your real life until round is over. There are only a few attackers known being able to combine real life with good attacking. In the end, attacking can be fun, challenging and morale-boosting. But there is alot of calculations and alot of time needed spent to do it right. Be sure to have the time before you choose this role.

- OK..got it...round is almost over...how do I win ?

- People will fight with what they got, until end of round to try for their family to win round in size (planetcount).

-People too gay to fight will try to win the game by having the biggest networth

- Inbred idiots will think score matters.

Good luck, and have fun playing around with the game. Dont follow any strategies to the point where you could just let somone else follow the set recipe for you. There is no learning in copying others to that point.

Also... take part in the community. This game would have been dead years ago, if the people werent awesome.

Cheers

Re: Tips ?

VIP gains a few bonuses:
1 - Naming planets
2 - Drafting yourself and a friend into a family.
3 - hot List
4 - Map advantages - can see where other fams are (This will require you to download ICMapGen and do a bit of research on these forums to fully understand how to utilise. It is also only really an advantage early in rounds - to remove core intruders; in an active family; or when going to war)

You used to get a VIP tag, and be allowed avatars - but the tag seems to have gone and any fool can now have an avatar.

Ultimately the secret to success = activity + luck + little knowledge
You have show activity and now should have some knowledge. Luck is just that. Don't be put down by a bad round. try to make friends with your family, in IC chat, etc and be part of the community. Many players have been around for over 9 years (often on and off, in my case mostly off) and will have had many bad and exhausting rounds.

specialising makes a lot of sense in an active family or pairing (banker + attacker). If you landed in a small family with few actives, being more self-sufficient makes sense. However, you can still determine your economy's make-up by your race's bonus:
40/50 income bonus means you need to go CF and research economy
0-30 income means you should have enough CF to cover your costs only, otherwise concentrate on resources
-30 - 0 income means you should only have resources (there's almost no point having -10 or -20 economy, and very little point having 0, 10, or 20 economy either)
