Where did they get the DNA from? :S.
they've had DNA testing for awhile, took them this long to run it for his case?
Nevermind:

The victims underwear was kept.
"The victims underwear was kept."
ew...
they don't automatically test for DNA on old cases, although he sued several times and finalyl a court ordered it
usually evidence is stored in plastic bags in A/C rooms, so DNA was accidentally preserved for decades
FL law says people wrongly convicted get $50,000 a year so he gets $1.75 million
"FL law says people wrongly convicted get $50,000 a year so he gets $1.75 million"
That's it? Only 1.75 million? When'd they calculate that was a fair amount, the 1800s?
inflation isn't that bad, and since he has never used a IBM PC or a Mac, it's good for him that he won't have to work
Actually, inflation IS that bad. He will have to work. In fact, he probably can't afford to buy a home for 1.75 mill. And what about the property taxes?
And, lastly, this is all IF he has any money left after forking over the lawyers their cuts.
well he's in FL, no state income tax
isn't that the guy who got out of jail and all he had when he left was $75 an a bus pass???
> Actually, inflation IS that bad. He will have to work. In fact,

Hes 50ish now. Say he lives 30 years and spends 500k on a house, thats
40k a year to live off -- which isn't that bad i guess.
"Actually, inflation IS that bad. He will have to work. In fact, he probably can't afford to buy a home for 1.75 mill."
Please tell me you are joking. Ok maybe not a home in Florida but if he can't get a home anywhere in the US for 1.75 mill he can come to Canada my folks own a 3 bedroom house and if memory serves they paid less than 200k for it only 2 years ago.
Of course Xeno lives in a 20 bedroom mansion, so his standards are skewed
he could buy a house for $20,000 down and make payments on a mortgage. he could invest the rest and live on interest. plus he can sell the book rights.
"he could buy a house for $20,000 down"
Which equates giving all his money bank to the corporations / bankers bureaucrats that @#%ed him over in the first place, simply for the opportunity to have somehwat dignified shelter. Oh, and of course, he'd have to get a job, and fork over his wages for what's left of the rest of his working years to, you guessed it, the @#%#s that #%#$ed him over in the first place.
Besides, where's he going to get a job, anyway? In this economic climate, and as you said, not being able to use computers, he'll be lucky to get a job at McDonalds.
"he could invest the rest and live on interest."
Invest in what exactly? Citybank? Enron? Mutual funds? Bonds whose rates of return don't cover inflation anymore?
"plus he can sell the book rights."
Lol. You mean find a producer of some film or publishing company stupid and naive enough to think that anyone other than the babyboomers will actually buy books, or rent movies.
Lol.
He, like the rest of us have been %#@ed-over. You do get that Balsz, right?

Xeno, I'm going to give you this big revelation:
We all have to go get jobs. We all have to pay for housing. Just because he has to do this stuff as well as other people, it doesn't mean the government has any additional obligation to pay for his lifestyle than it does for anyone else. Stay on topic and discuss the issues specific to this guy, rather than a general "life sucks" rant/

Once again, everyone has these problems.
Oh, and stop relying on anecdotal evidence. I just got a job a month ago. Proves you're empirically wrong. ![]()

If you think every stock, bond, and mutual fund in the global economy is unprofitable, then you're just insane. Simple as that.
Haven't you noticed since 911 that everyone is being treated like a potential criminal or terrorist?
You go to the supermarket, and you have to lock up your bag. You go to a casino on a weekend to blow off some steam and the security are watching YOU and protecting THEMselves, not protecting you and your interests like they should be. They're watching their cctv monitors for people who might be cheating them, not pickpockets or conartists who might be cheating their customers. They don't give a #$@% about the patron anymore, ANYWHERE.
Corporate policy EVERYWHERE has adopted the same kind of philosophy with regards to public relations, and governments are the worst.
They've abandoned the once sacred notion of liberalism that it is the duty of the government to protect the rights and dignity of the individual from the tyranny of the majority, and claiming that these policies are serving the 'greater good', when really they are merely protecting their own and their crony corporate partners' interests.
This James Bain is a symbol of what is happening to each and every one of us.
whats with you xeno? It wasnt banks that locked him up.

lock up your bag? wtf are you talking about? and no, im 100% sure s large part of casino security is making sure customers arent robbed... they look for pickpockets and conartists...
Yeah... I was really confused about what bag people have to lock up. The paper or plastic grocery bags they put their groceries in?
"You go to a casino on a weekend to blow off some steam and the security are watching YOU and protecting THEMselves, not protecting you and your interests like they should be."
The nerve of some people; looking to protect their own interests before those of other.
"They don't give a #$@% about the patron anymore, ANYWHERE."
They never did. Businesses care about customers to the extent that they continue to purchase their product. Good customer service is just part of that. Believe me if they thought they could stab you in the parking lot and knock out some teeth and you'd still come back they'd do it. I coud, and would, explain how this isn't a corporate thing it's a human thing but it's late and that'd be very much off topic.
maybe thievery is such a huge problem in china that supermarkets installed lockers for people to lock their bags in before they're allowed in...
Just so you know, Xeno, we don't have those lockers in America.
"Just so you know, Xeno, we don't have those lockers in America."
But you do, metaphorically speaking. Policy in general is to subvert the freedom and dignity of the individual, subvert their being considered innocent before guilty, in order to protect the majority / corporation / government, policies which are really a smokescreen for the corporation / government / military / global elite protecting itself and its own interests.
Leaving bags in lockers while shopping is merely an example. There are plenty more...
Shall we brainstorm some?
