Topic: Man made global warming

Please, no retards. Man-made global warming shall be referred to as "MMGW".

Okay, so i'd like to discuss this issue in this order:

1. The current effects of climate change on the human race.
2. The chances of MMGW being true.
3. The chances of MMGW being as severe as predicted.
4. What practical things can/might/should be done.
5. MMGW and the scientific process.

Lets start with #1:

Firstly does anyone have an actual sources to backup claims of this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVGGgncVq-4

(It uses fear to suggest that:)

A) 250+ million people will be refugees
B) Rainforests, woods, herds of animals might not exist in 20-25 years.
C) That the world needs "saving".

Re: Man made global warming

95% of the green housE effect is caused by water vapor. 0.0001% of water vapor is man made. When a weighted average of all other gasses with a green house effect with the percentage of that gas that's put in the atmosphere by humans is turns out only 0.38% of the green house effect is caused by humans. If there is a warming trend it's for all practical purposes natural and there's nothing we can do about it.

Re: Man made global warming

And here we have the problem with global warming:

The science itself is irrelevant if those discussing it cannot enter the argument with
an open mind. The most annoying thing about the this whole debarcle is that neither
side of the public argument are willing to admit that they are not the supreme being
of knowledge.

No science is perfect. To suggest otherwise is absurd and counter-productive. If Newton,
Galileo or Einstein had not questioned science where would we be?

There is no absolute truth in science. This is called Blind Faith, and is much closer to
religion then science.

hmmm, well is it not green house gasses that is the difference between the temperature being absolute zero and what it is across the world. so .38% of that being manmade sounds fairly significant imo...

Re: Man made global warming

my greatest concern is that we rely on these "renewable resources". the sun, the wind, and geothermal energy while they arent being fully harassed by humans, do have a significant effect on our environment, significant use on these products could have very significant effects on our environment..  while "renewable resources" might be a nice fix for global warming, because global warming is essentially a state where there is a surplus of energy in the atmosphere; reliance on use of teh surplus of energy in the atmosphere would cause a lack of energy in the atmosphere, a global cooling; and then we're [moo'd] unless we largely develop technologies not reliant on these "renewable resources" cold fusion probably being ideal...

Re: Man made global warming

That site explains all the math. Data is from the US Department of Energy and such. 0.28% is the man made contribution.

That means if every one of us falls over dead and doesn't pollute anymore it wouldn't have any significant impact. Saying humans are causing global warming is like saying your 4 year old is going to dig a hole to China. It's cute, but no adult would take you seriously.

Re: Man made global warming

it doesnt define what is greenhouse effect.

if greenhouse effects are simply the atmosphere that retains heat, then all heat above absolute zero is being retained by the gasses.  the average temperaure of the earth is around 58 degress Fahrenheit that would mean that the greenhouse gasses increase our temperature by roughly 518 Fahrenheit degrees,  so using the .28% figure you provided, that would mean man made global warming is currently increasing the average global temperature roughly 1.45 Fahrenheit degrees....if i use the .38% you used in your first post, its 1.97 degrees.. is that much different then the scientists saying that global warming is a big issues? they didnt say that global warming has increased the temperature by 10 degrees, but jsut 1 or 2, right? if you plug in the 5% of greenhouse gasses that you claim the scientists who think we have a significant effect use; then you have us increasing the global temperature by over 25 degrees Fahrenheit; i have never heard of anyone claiming we are currently increasing the average temperature over 3 degrees, so i doubt they are making that mistake...

Re: Man made global warming

global warming is all about "statistical sampling" , extrapolating a series from a data point

so say Arsenal scores a goal in 2 minutes in its first match of the year.

somebody could demonstrate that if Arsenal scores every two minutes it will destroy every other club in the UK and go on to win the world cup

you could do estimates of the loss of viewership and attendance as millions of sickened fans stop bothering to watch a match where Arsenal will dominate, and stop watching other matches because whoever wins, they can't beat Arsenal

based on this expert opinion laws could be passed to curb arsenal's insane march to total domination through responsible regulation of football

meanwhile Arsenal has the worst slump in 150 years

but because you happened to pick the wrong 2 mins as the baseline, and are a spastic dork, you destroyed the morale of the British people and the UK will become just another satrapy of the EU

same thing with global warming

"he provided a source in his 2nd post..."

that source claims that % of Greenhousgas = % of the Greenhouse Effect...
tsss
big fail... seems like someone didn't understand the Greenhouse effect at all...

Re: Man made global warming

@ matrix that source does not treat percent of gas as percent of greenhouse effect. You clearly are not interested in factual information as you did not bother to read the entire page.

I will accept your apology when ever you're ready.

Re: Man made global warming

did you read it?
he ads the 95%  Water vapor on top of that..   to make the rest look small...

his source for the 95% is funny.
if you actuall read it you see the sentence

"Freidenreich and colleagues [106] have reported the overlap of carbon dioxide and water absorption bands in the infrared region. Given the present composition of the atmosphere, the contribution to the total heating rate in the troposphere is around 5 percent from carbon dioxide and around 95 percent from water vapor."

oh does that mean he is right?
no if you have some clue you know that the there is more as the tropsphere...
and if you read the next sentence:

"In the stratosphere, the contribution is about 80 percent from carbon dioxide and about 20 percent from water vapor"

hurrah
and the site makes 95% effect of water vapor out of it.... rofl
if you only read what you want you can make up interesting calculations.. and since 90% of the people reading such a thing don't even check the source people like you actuall believe it because they have no clue how the greenhouse effect works

Tobi

Re: Man made global warming

what percent of thermal energy is contained in the troposphere?

I SAID to blast the atmosphere off the hot spots, but oh no, YOU knew it all, didnt ya

Can anyone actually confirm or deny Al Gore talking about global
warming "for decades" ?

AND can anyone confirm or deny the north polar ice cap has been
the size of the continental U.S. for 3 million years? And that 40%
has already melted?
