With massive increases in grain prices the squeeze is on.
Expect the riots to start in Africa first.

I think it's a temporary raise. A lot of areas produced less grain over the years (like Europe), and will change back to that soon enough. In the meantime, indeed, foodprices are raised, but they'll lower again but not to the same level as before probably..
There was a post with some credible information in Usenet, but not enough to entirely validate it, that there might only be 10 weeks of grain on the world market, with some harvests to come in to keep that up, but showing a quick decline in the worlds total grain supply.
This information indicated this is getting worse as the United States replants grain feilds to biofuel fields in ever growing numbers, astonishing levels even. There is talk that popcorn in movie theatres might be $10 a bag in two years as well, which is ironic considering corn will then be the #1 'biological' product in the world.
This is bogus
we still pay people not to grow too much food
but good luck getting Congress to stop shelling out for that
Its not because the world consumes more food, its mostly because the world consumes more "luxery" food. You need more grain to feed animals to have the same amount of food. That is good and bad news. Bad because it consumes more recources and a lot of energy. Good because we can abandon paying farmers.
