  Pray-tell, what is the reason?

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

Because you are told "God" is impractical by science.

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

no, science tells us God is "improbable", our super-ego says its "impractical" and our personalities define the black & whites among the vast grey's of possabilities.

some atheists also like to identify belief in God as a manafestation of human creativity. this means that some "negative" atheist's identify God as mans' "hero" to save man from the horror they bring upon themselves. Now, in modern day Earth, we call the MAN MADE deities of salvation... Superhero's!

is it too hard to see that the human imagination could have created God just like we did with all of our other work's of art? from Super-heroes to legends and bible's to internet....

Bravo! to the human animal!! the most creative species on Earth!!!

Ehawk just ended the thread as far as I'm concerned, but I do hope this sparks some ADULT discussion.

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

While you may beleive in a god, dont delude yourself into believing that the reason you beleive in a god is a result of your intelligence, IQ, education, or ability to think for yourself... ?

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

Well for starters i find it very funny how every society creates their own God. That alone i find suspicious.

As for holy books like the bible .. they are written by mere people. In the case of the bible, many also believe a select group of people chose was going to be in it.  They even keep changing it as as the "geneal ideas of life" progress... i doubt anyone believes that God create the world in 7 days, implented day&night, put some animals on the planet etc... . (In my opinion, relegion was (ab)used by people who craved for power and wanted to control the masses.)

Religion raises more question than it answers and it doesn't add up in my opinion. (answer like "because wants it to be that way" and "It's written in the holy book" are pretty crappy arguments with no strength... in my opinion)

As for a reason i don't choose to believe in any kind of God is the idea of existentialism. I really like the Idea that every person should give meaning to their live so that their life is worth living. I personally don't want to devote my life to some God who i beleive to be created by mankind, not the other way around. I believe any religion to be a lie, and devoting my life to a lie seems pretty meaningless....

I do admire the devotion of "believers", and the capability to believe something blindly(even though they claim to have seen the truth tongue)....I rather devote my life to something "smaller" that i know to be truely meaningful such as friends, love, building a carreer, making something of yourself, etc ... .

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

is this thread about atheists saying why they dont beleive or are you calling me out, telling me to tell you why you beleive? also, lolz at not even quoting the whole sentence.... pathetic games you play...

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

religion is exactly the result of an increase in IQ in the human species.

When able to think about his situation he has an internal conflict. His instinct tells him to be alive at all cost (and fight his way to success) and his mind tells him there is no reason nor purpose in life whatsoever. So they invented religion. If it wasn't invented, it would. They probably invented it countless times. It is proven that the prehistoric man had forms of religion.

It is ironic that this black anarchist was celebrated as a demi-god because Christianity was enforced by the roman emperor.

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

Because I was never brainwashed into believing. Your choice of god is based on the last person that brainwashed you.

I'd have thought that was obvious.

Ok... > many of the greatest minds in history were religious people; while you may not beleive in a god, dont delude yourself into believing that the reason you dont beleive in a god is a result of your intelligence, IQ, education, or ability to think for yourself... <

Oh yeah, now I remember why I did not include what was before the semi-colon; It has nothing to do with you insinuating that you know the real reason as to why [Atheists] do not believe in god, it is irrelevant to the question, and is even irrelevant to what follows the semi-colon (probably because you don't know how to use one).

> pathetic games you play... <

The only game I see is you trying to give the impression that you are addressing my request whilst trying to divert my, and others, attention by starting yet another of one of your cyclical-arguments fuelled by your searching for minor points of contention that have little relevance to the subject in hand.

__________

Don't try to win by being me; I invented me.

Oh, and that ^ is how you use a semi-colon.

i did not do that at all. i simply stated that i know the reason why atheists dont beleive in a god is not because of intelligence, IQ, education, or ability to think for yourself...  and the statement before that you cut off explains why i think that...

"The only game I see is you trying to give the impression that you are addressing my request whilst trying to divert my"

oh yeah, because when you avoid a question by you saying shit like "I'd have thought that was obvious" is not only not playing a game, but shows that you have a genuine interest in me addressing your request...

if not, at least it made me laugh.

The statement that many of the greatest minds in history were religious people? If you insist.

@ EVERYONE:

Is the answer to the following question obvious, yes or no?

thx for proving my point...

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

whenever anyone talks about Atheism, the topic of conversation is always about "believing" and "not believing". No one ever asks us any good questions.

How come its okay for religions to talk about thier religious culture in detail, but atheist are always forced to explain reasoning. You dont see us asking you to find "reasoning" in your beliefs.

here are some atheist topics that are good conversations:
-Why are atheist still moral without believing?
-How is atheism created or spread among the world?
-What percentage of the world are atheist?
-What is death like in the mind of atheists?
-How do atheist find comfort in times of crisis?
-Books that are recomended by the American Atheist Foundation.

I think anyone who wishes to argue against Atheism, please google, or whatever, just dont waste my time with vague depictions of your religions' effort to resist against all beliefs but your own. history prooves this.

in a little while, i'm going to make an interesting "facts" sheet, short, simple and it might be fun for the atheist that just wanna see smile

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

I guarentee if you stood on the street corner and started preaching from the Satanists bible Numerous people will shut you down. Obviously offending small minded people.
You approach a person preaching from the bible and say, "I'm an Atheist and I think what you are doing is pointless and a waste of your time (cos look, no-ones listening), and what you are saying offends me, what'll happen?

You'll get a freaking lecture on sh!t you don't care about.
Thats the point; you don't care. Atheist's aren't concerned about who made them, as far as they're concerned it was their parents and thats that. So there is no God to start off a belief in.

How olds the earth? 4500 years old, that enough raises to many questions for me to even consider a belief.

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

Giving a name to Atheism, kind of makes it like an organised religion, minus the whole god side of things.

Been dreaming, I've been waiting, To fly with those brave ponies
The Wonderbolts, their daring tricks, Spinning 'round and having kicks
Perform for crowds of thousands, They'll shower us with diamonds
The Wonderbolts will see me right here at the Gala!

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

Or a coalition of people opposed to religion being imposed on their lives.

Re: Tell us why we don't believe in God

Just a group banded together to fight a common enemy.

"Just a group banded together to fight a common enemy."

Why do you assume religion is the atheists' enemy?
