Topic: Have you ever been hypnotised???

Just seen a supposedly 'hypnosis' act.

Wondered if any of you have ever been hyp'd, or do you believe it, or think it is all fake?

Personally, I am more to believing that it is fake, but I would love a go at being hypnotised to find out for myself.

i've hypnotized myself plenty of times

Re: Have you ever been hypnotised???

I used to use a form of hypnosis for meditation amongst other things (google "self-hypnosis". The name I've used for it doesn't seem to return any relevant results). So yes, I've been hypnotised smile Many a time.

Re: Have you ever been hypnotised???

Depends what you define by hypnosis. Some might say zoning out into a waking dream-state in a maths lesson was a kind of light hypnosis.

Hypnosis like 'on the count of three, you are going to wake up pretending  you have lost your keys to your ferrari'

^ ^ ^ that kind, but some interesting things said here !

aint there a fear of self-hpnosis of not coming out of it?

Re: Have you ever been hypnotised???

Hypnosis is nothing more than a deep state of relaxation. And the old myth that only the weak willed can be hypnotized is not true. You actually have to have a strong will in order to enter hypnosis. Basically, you have to will yourself into trance. You can't do that if you are weak willed. You can always decide not to do anything that is "implanted." You can also choose to come out of hypnosis any time you want. You can't really be forced to act like a chicken. Those stage acts are just that, stage acts.

I wouldn't like to hypontised, mainly due to the state of extreme vulnerability one is in while in a hypnotic trance.

You are actually not as vulnerable as you think. You decide if you want to do something or not. No one can make you do something you don't want to do, even if you are under hypnosis. If it seriously goes against your moral fiber, then you have the ability to decide NOT to do it. You are in a state of deep relaxation. The state between sleep and awake. You are conscious and unconscious at the same time. That doesn't mean you can't immediately wake up if something is suggested that you even partially do not want to do.  Like I said, you actually have to be strong minded in order to be hypnotized.

think that just opening your mind and feeling comfortable and trusting the other's words (hypnosis speech) is enough

but key part remains with this, you need to want to do it, or nothing happens

That's why you need a strong mind. You need to be able to focus.

Re: Have you ever been hypnotised???

Hypnotism is just a form of meditation - I have reduced serotonin levels in my brain, so its easier for me to "zone out" than for most people smile Also makes me more suceptable to have a so-called "religious experience" - if I wasn't an atheist, I'd probably be spewing descriptions of some of those experiences now.
