I think that too, mostly because of the modern tendency to zealously seek to become uber-manly makes me wonder if ther is not some over-compensation happening.
Seriously, imagine a gang of middle-class white boys going "I is a propa nigga, innit" whilst beating the snot of goths and such for having long hair because "Long hair is for faggots, innit".
