Topic: It's Not My Story

No it is not me, it is somebody else's who posted it on a raving right wing reactionary blog I surf

http://thewildernessofmirrors.wordpress.com/the-daedalus-effect-ascension-of-an-empire/

He wants reader opinion and I thought I would help him out by sharing it with people who come online to read science fiction instead of leaving it to people who come online to call each other Stinking Traitor Who Would Have Been Lynched if America Still Had Balls.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: It's Not My Story

Copied it to my 'stick, will pour over it later.

Re: It's Not My Story

you know what

he is not a smart man. I stopped reading after they took a sub and made it into a [moo] space ship.
That's just stupid, and the political innuendo is just bad

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: It's Not My Story

In a way he's right, but if you literally took a submarine and put it in orbit (somehow) it would pop.
...
Not reading it any more, my computer died. Now I could blame it on me trying to be clever, or I could blame it on that over-targetted-at-an-audience story. wink

Re: It's Not My Story

subs are made to take in positive pressure and hold.

In spess there is negative pressure as everything is pulled outwards

Re: It's Not My Story

I bet that would look awesome in slow-mo.

Re: It's Not My Story

As soon as I can afford a submarine I'll be testing this out

Re: It's Not My Story

hrm, you might not have to wait for space, just put one in vaccuum

and if it survives, try filling it with baking soda, and seeing if will submerge and surface on its own

Re: It's Not My Story

Myabe you could just get it to high altitude?

Re: It's Not My Story

Depends really. The weight of moving such a thing high, might be harder then constructing an airtight casing where you could pump out oxygen.

Re: It's Not My Story

Like I'm supposed to believe they did when they supposedly faked the moon landings? Could work... it would be one big-ass pressure-chamber though.
