Topic: Browser Vulnerabilities

Just read a articel about browsers and there vulnerabilities. The articel was based on a companies finished research on internett security. The company, Cenzic's report stated that 44% of the holes in all major browsers came from Firefox.

And the list:

Opera 6%
IE 15%
Safari 35%
Firefox 44%

I thought that Firefox and Opera was one of the safest browsers, and why leave out Chrome, to bad that was not included. One of the researchers at Cenzic (Ewe) still use Firefox as his browser. And Mozilla tends to be fast with vulnerability patches, so I would not make the switch to another browser because of this, if you like Firefox stay with the Fox smile

I am staying with FF, Opera and Chrome.

The entire articel can be read here: http://news.idg.no/cw/art.cfm?id=DAEEAC92-1A64-67EA-E4FF030D00703DC1

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

somehow I find this hard to believe. I always use FF and I hardly ever have problems. Unlike the good ole IE time.

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

I hate IE with a passion! And today most sites work with FF so no reason to use it. And if the site wont work with other browser then IE, why stay on the site tongue

They are alone. They are a dying race. We should let them pass.

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

I think the numbers are skewed by the fact that FF is most popular so criminal minds logically target FF first.

IE is the most popular one!

by a long way still

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

I think most IE users are either new, at work, in a library, or simply don't know any better (I used IE for almost 10 years before switching).

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

I am sure alot of browsing happens at work, and since some work places have restrictions on what can be installed (have to be admin on own computer), alot of them are stuck with IE 6. But the IT guys should be able to fix that upgrade to IE 8? But, yeah...65% of IE users im sure is using another browser at home.

I started using Opera when they had that Bannner and it cost money to have it removed. Some years after that I used Mozilla. Now im switching between Opera, Chrome and FF. But I tend to use Opera at work and Chrome home on my laptop, sites that have problems I use FF on.

Have to say that Chrome realy is a surprise. Starts fast, load sites fastest of any browser.  There are quirks here and there, but its a newborn baby compared to other browsers.

They are alone. They are a dying race. We should let them pass.

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

I love Chrome, I've used it pretty much nonstop since the Beta came out lol. The only thing I miss about IE which neither FF not Chrome do is that when u ctrl+n a page, it opens that same page again, which is really useful for IC tongue On ff and chrome u get a new blank page which can be kind of annoying lol, but i guess iv got used to it now. I also can't seem to get the right source code for Yamas on anything but IE :S

But in general, Chrome is the shizz. I barely use FF. the sites that don't support chrome (like some verbal reasoning test sites i've had to use recently for job applications) often don't support the latest versions of FF either (the test site only went to FF 2 lol), so i have to go back to IE.

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

If you think about, this list just means that the FF team is quick to fix bugs, it dosent mean the other browsers have less bugs but it does mean they are not so fast in fixing bugs.

And this list also miss a statistic over how crucial bugs are getting fixed..

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

Yes there is a huge difference compared to atleast FF and IE. As mozilla (praise opensource software) release the info about the bugs etc., MS does not (closed source). But if you read the report, you will see that it have nothing to do with the stat over bugs, it's how sites abuse browsers with faults and how it's beeing used to wrongdoings. And thats what the stat's for.

Mozilla is the fastest one to fix bugs for the browser. Dont know about googles browser Chrome. But i do know, that MS is realy slow fixing theire bugs, and they even dont release the info about them.

They are alone. They are a dying race. We should let them pass.

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

What proof do you have that Mozilla is the fastest?

I use chrome and my only real complainy is
that when you view the source of a page it
re-requests it (im almost posotive this is happening...).

Oh and i dislike IE...not because on bugs, but because its
un-intuitive. I dislike firefox because its fanboys and because
its big, bloated and ugly.

whaddya think of Alanis Morrisette?

Re: Browser Vulnerabilities

I am glad that firefox is finally taking over from IE, IE is so crappy tongue
Chrome is fine too though.

I wonder why people have more than one browser anyway hmm
