no yelll, nothlit is right, but not in every circumstance. most law schools outside the top 10 are largely regional. so yes, if you want a job at a big firm outside the area you studied, you'll need to really shine. however, if you're going to work in the area you graduated from, you most certainly do not need to be top 5-10%, it can't hurt of course, but it's not needed. failing horribly definitely hurts, but who the hell does that? not me. it really depends on your goals, i'm not looking to work for some rediculous firm in NYC, i'm not a stress lover, i try to keep it low key.
