http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091007/ap_on_re_af/piracy

there is the link the French is so lame there ships looks like commercial ships. I thinks its funny they are so passive having the french on your side is like having the weakest kid defending you against a gang of guys that are majorly buff.

Anyways they actually did capture the 5 Pirates

France will fight anybody without an Air Force. Even greenpeace.  but if these somalis had a Sopwith Camel the French would be over the horizon

Re: French military or commercial ships rofl

that's the trend in a peacetime navy, they don't tie down a capital ship with administrative staff

Re: French military or commercial ships rofl

I'm just shocked the French took them...forget about mistaking it for a freighter...didn't they know they had guns?!?!?!?

I know what happened...it was super dark....

so dark that the pirates couldn't tell it was a war ship...and took dark for the French to realize they were armed!

They name their flagship after a battle in which they  had  200000 casualties?

Re: French military or commercial ships rofl

"This was to become the Battle of the Somme (French: Bataille de la Somme), also known as the Somme Offensive. It became one of the largest battles of the First World War and continued from 1 July to 18 November 1916. By the time the winter set in and fighting had receded, more than 1.5 million casualties had been suffered by the forces involved. It is now understood to have been one of the bloodiest military operations ever recorded."

'The German Empire, being the defenders and fighting from extremely well prepared defensive systems suffered too, a German record describing the battle as "..the muddy grave of the German Army."'

It's not mentioned in that Wikipedia entry (that I could find anyway) but I remember from history class that come consider the Battle of the Somme to be a turning point in WWI.
