Saw it last night... Yay for Hey Hey! After rating so well, Channel 9 would have to bring it back. I so missed Dickie Knee.
No, didn't find it funny either, nor racist.
Would have people thought it racist if they were Elvis impersonators? Is BABBA considered racist? No. All it was was (Man the English language sucks some times) an act on the Jackson 5. (I imagine someone will mention that they didn't need the paint, but how else were you meant to tell they were black? If they just did the Michael Jackson glove, if they got the reference this late, they would think it was Michael Jackson and some backing singers/ dancers.
Just bloody Harry Connick Jr (Septics in general really) being touchy about it because of the ground they've had to cover with slavery and racism. Good to see he stuck to his values though instead of pandering to Darrel.
I would have only given them a score of one big_smile Good old Red Symonds.

If Fridays for funerals, and Saturdays for brides,
I guess I'll take Sunday as mine.

On the 7PM project they explained why it was racist. I guess i can understand where
the whole racist thing is coming from...

One could still argue that, although it was in bad taste, it wasn't really racist.

bad taste? sure. racist? no. a skit isnt racist; people are racist. and from the skit we have no reason to suspect the people participating in it are racist.

I heard about that too actually... Mostly I heard they did it when African crooning singing and such... And they the Yanks came to expect the singer to be dressed up black... Lol, Dad was listening to the ABC this morning there was apaprently a black African crooner who used to put the black make up on, 'cause it was expected.

Unfortunately there are places in the world where real racism occurs. Yet people feel the urge to label it wherever possible almost - it seems - because it's white people?

If black peopole did the same thing made up as a white group would it still be proclaimed racist?

in America it would be because the image they are adopting is that of the "coon", a stage character supposed to represent all blacks
a silly childlike figure who exaggerates every emotion and generally annoys all the white people it meets who are just trying to get on with life, then here comes a coon who wants to steal their pie and eat it  or some other silly plot

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.
