Topic: I want to learn something in a day (help me)

Hi folks,

(Original thread and comments at http://www.tiedyeina.com/2009/08/i-want-to-learn-something-in-day.html on the off-chance the latest lot of mods won't whine about advertising)

I want to learn something. In a day. I don't want to *start* learning something, I want, at the end of the day, to have some skill or ability I can use in the future. Something cool, something fun. I'd rather not have to wait ages for any required materials (I don't mind paying), I'd rather not do it in a group and I'd rather not have to go to some specialised location.

Ideas? (Best ideas so far are Origami, Whittling and Poi - also welcome any comments on these)

Whittling would take more than a day. Oxyacetylene welding maybe

I would add learning to read binary but somehow I figure you can already

Or you could get a copy of the lord of the rings and the silmarillion and memorize the descent of the Eldar in Middle Earth which would spare you the embarassment my pal dave suffered. Silly ass, he tried peddling the fairy tale that Legolas and his dad feuded when legolas gave the ring of fire to gandalf. As if I didn't know Three were the cultural heritage of the Noldar in Eregion, NOT dark elves who never saw the Blessed Isle.

Whittling more than a day? Obviously to be a pro it would be, but couldn't I make something relatively simple in a day?

someday we should take deci to a good soul food restaurant

stuff him full of hickory-smoked turkey, sweet-and-sour ribs, red beans and squaw bread and peach cobbler

then take him back to shake hands with teh chef
