wow that trial only took 10 years. Way to promote job security and ruin the notion of a speedy trial!
you're looking at the wrong date
the facts took place in 1998, he was indicted in februari 2005 and his trial started somewhere in 2007. This is pretty speedy. Also you have no evidence that they are drawing these cases out for their job security. There have alwyas been several cases investigated/being trialed at the same time already, you can't expect them to do everything all at once so everything would be wrapped up in a day or so. Besides they have a general mandate until 2009 or whatever and apart from some big fishes that could turn up there is very little chance they would be able to extend their mandate by stalling cases of these little guys.
I think the war crime tribunals based around the Serbian conflicts are a joke.
Does not mean all war crime tribunals are however.
I actually think Saddam was a special case, no it should not have been handed over to the Hague but at the same time America could have handled things better. At the end of the day he was executed in the name of his own people and it was no more then he deserved.
The idea that the Hague should be done away with is a frightening one though, there needs to be some international court to decide on war criminals otherwise it would be anarchy. Every captured general from the losing conflict could be executed as "war criminals" if it was left to each individual nation.
and some nations would rather kiss a frogl then acknowledge one of their own oopsied
