At Kowloon
-------------
Within rings of towers for billionaires;
within rings of cafes, bars, and restaurants;
within rings of palms, pillars, and neo-deconstrucuralizationisms;
is a public fountain.

The Road
-----------
Walking through the forest one day,

I chanced upon some men and machines.

They were chopping down the trees,

stripping and tarring the trunks,

standing them back up,

dead,

in concrete and asphalt,

and,

finally,

connecting them with wires.

"Where does it lead?", I asked.

"We don't know", they answered.

Re: the new new poetry thread!

I wrote this one a while ago.  Since the credit crisis, however, it seems rather current.

Civilization

One cigarette burning away in the ashtray;
cappuccino cup left empty;
french-fried potato crumbs
in the bottom of the basket;
a stain of red
in the bottom of the wine-glass;
a napkin crumpled;
and a leather folder
teetering off the edge
of the marble table.

Re: the new new poetry thread!

The beat gets to me
In such a degree

Deep is the burn it makes
As it sketches my mistakes

Yet the words and meaning
Are cleaning

I FEEL SOOOO GOOOOD

Re: the new new poetry thread!

the alarm bell RINGS
Her mind is a blur of ink written in the STARS
she FEELS no more
no more LAUGHter

the road is set but
she wonders what it's worth
the tears have left
she doesn't even care
reasons fade

the wings have been cut
with the books open
its all the same
the fire dies
a whisper

no need for the wind to guide
never will she get
songs no longer sung
and Silence evermore
Call

wrong is a fact
when angels have died
and lights have faded
and everything falls

It leaves me wanting more.  I want to know what happened, where she's going.  And not answering those questions makes it good.

I'm going to be nicer promise

Re: the new new poetry thread!

yeah, I wasn't gonna answer those neither
but part 1, I thought perhaps like a part two which is from a different perspective
this girl actually was viewed upon by this other boy, whom aswell had hopes and tells about this girl he's seen(the same story perhaps)
but afterwards I kinda got stuck, cause now I must be carefull, do I keep the same feel or do I change style,
and what about it, and the 'part one' kinda looks cool aswell as that is like shakespear whom numbered his poems aswell

it also could implement, that all this first story was but a dream aswell,

'Lost hope (of a dreamer)' the title I gave gives various possibilities wink
but two main ones; 'Lost hope' of the girl,  lost of the girl whom is a dreamer, and Lost hope, of a second bystander unmentioned in the poem.

I love this ^^ smile

I also gave some explenation in the general forums, and about how I created this poem.
I actually wonder:
do other people create poems like this aswell, and is this how a poem is Meant to be created or does this make it fake or lesser?

Re: the new new poetry thread!

Some people have a tendency to be able to create a poem by sticking thought and will into making one.

Others can let it flow through them and sometimes make gold while making a lot of shitty ones like me, I'm in the bad phase right now as I usually just want to express my thoughts and forget about rhyming, kinda like a story.

But both are accepted.

Re: the new new poetry thread!

I have creative diarhoea too.
I was awake most of last night, with BBC News 24 in the background, picking the golden peanuts out of the many piles of crap within my humble abode.

My Star, My Star

legs kissing tongues wrap
say no word baby hush
one last dance upon my lap
got to go and take a rush

taking you away from your crush
where you don't belong
these fruits for you are way too lush
way too soon this will go too wrong

let me sing you a new song
they'll miss you not a bit
c'mon baby you are strong
you'll find out before you get hit

happy that you're back
my star my star is back

Re: the new new poetry thread!

I wrote this about a friend of mine a little while back:

The Upside-down Man

I saw the upside-down man
Not the white knight on his sidling horse,
Sliding into scene to save the day
Who tumbled from his sturdy steed
The one who invented better upside [right-side] down

No, I saw the upside-down man
The one who doesn't know he tells his own story
Slinking at night in a sinking world
He spoke to me once
He told me everything and nothing
I can't remember now which was more important

He painted me a picture that wasn't for me
Of the upside-down man,
Chained, repressed,
Free

He sees the world right-side up
Perspective in art is so difficult to do right
So difficult in the world
Be he knows
His sight is beyond the world's
He doesn't know he's right

I saw the upside-down man where he hung from the floor
He stood there shivering
Staring at the slithering masses I stood among
The upside-down right-side-up man
I looked around because he was right
We are the mold on the ceiling of his vision

He bends rules, the up-side down man
Not because he cares, or dares
Not to rebel, or make a point
He doesn't see them, can't know them
He has a vision from another world
And there's no rules there
The upside-down man knows
Everyone[thing] is wrong

Re: the new new poetry thread!

"All hail the upside down man!"

I like it, and I think I know how he feels, makes me want to meet this friend of yours and receive some of his knowledge.
Kinda has some emotional touch, like the forsaken hero, not knowing that he's right, makes me cry sad

A fools birth
makes you forget
to leave earth
and leave your debt

and when the children smile
it empties our world
and makes it worthwhile
before it whirled

and it will Be Forever
even the joy in heaven
won't cool down bitter
cannot unheathen

when earth makes it cycle
again and again and again

Re: the new new poetry thread!

This is my personal philosophy
just live your life
let it be
and seek no trouble

do the things with good will
and try to solve
wanna chill?
then play some golf

aim for greatness
do not complain
don't make a mess
and go insane

this world is yours
and ours!

WW

Hunger-hearted he hasted
dashing through the snow
years have been wasted
running for a change now

Winter wished Wallace well
though he really couldn't tell
said things would soon come
to end

Soon delayed over a season
August summer did the bidding
Granted painly for the stirling
yet he was not the subject

Every hitting for a reason
bring WW in for treason
